webfact
Thailand faces an alarming increase in wild elephant attacks, resulting in at least 150 deaths and over 133 injuries since 2018, according to a report by the country's Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation. Many victims have been tourists in southern Thailand. The Humane Society attributes these attacks to tourists provoking the elephants. The report reveals these massive animals have been venturing into populated areas, causing havoc on roads and even entering homes, making Thailand a global hotspot for elephant-related incidents. In a notable event, a herd of 50 elephants crossing a highway in Chachoengsao halted traffic. However, the situation escalated when a seven-ton bull elephant named Duea sat in a motorist's car in Khao Yai National Park. Further, regions like Nakhon Ratchasima, Phang Nga, and Hua Hin are witnessing a surge in human-elephant conflicts. As these incidents become more frequent, locals resort to deterrent measures like deploying ping-pong "bombs". The Humane Society International postulates a correlation between the increased attacks and captive elephants. A significant number of elephants in Thailand are held in captivity, employed in tourism and logging industries, and kept in zoos and performance venues. Sadly, only a small proportion of these majestic animals are free in their natural habitats. Those in captivity endure restrictive conditions, forced to perform tasks for tourists. Activist groups such as PETA have consistently criticized elephant rides, arguing that elephants in captivity are displaced from their natural habitats and exploited. Thingamabob
Pathetic article, completely missing the point that elephants, and other wild life, are having their natural habitat taken over by humans. This is not only occurring in Thailand. Most humans consider their needs far more important than an animal's needs, sad to say.
digbeth
While elephants are in their natural habitat, humans happens to build into their land, and now with elephant numbers on the rise due to either various conservation effort or lack of food forcing them into human occupied area, it's only a matter of time before it become big problem like monkeys in Lopburi, elephant attack/encroachment on built areas were unhearad of but are now daily occurrence in Chantaburi and areas around Khao Yai, it's cute tourists can come see elephants until it is not, Lopburi was like that too a decade a go with a few monkeys in isolated area
Photoguy21
If you provoke an elephant it is obvious who will win. It could also be due to the male elephants being in musk while does make them very aggressive.

As I said above this is a lift from The Sun and everyone knows that's a trash paper. AN has jus copied it with some changes. This would be acemedic fraud at the very least or plagiarism at worst in education circles as it's unattributed. Basically a stolen article albeit a crap article. I gave the laugh emoji because I can't give the agree emoji also. You are correct. Harvard University. Claudine Gay. Done for plagiarism which is a level higher than academic fraud. Citation is something we are told we have to do certain times on here so why doesn't the same apply to the "writers" of articles on here which no longer attribute articles to their rightful owner. To say The Sun didn't lift the article from somewhere else is unknown to me but this article was definitely lifted from The Sun without attribution. dinsdale
I once saw a young elephant eat a mandarine. It was amazing. It trod on it so delicately to just break the peel. Then picked it up with its trunk and ate the flesh and discarded the peel. Outstanding. There were Thais around at the time and we were all amazed.
