Hernia operation

Booked into my local Government hospital for a hernia repair. Total cost included 2 days private room meds and food etc was 13,859 Baht. Out of that the actual operation cost 7,400 Baht. I had Spinal anesthetic and was up and walking (no pain) within 4 hours. I can't say how pleased I am with the whole prosses. Before people start jumping up and saying government hospitals aren't any good then my case proved that to be a total myth.

Most people overestimate the severity and uniqueness of their situation. A hernia repair is a routine surgery that is a training exercise for surgical interns. The government hospitals are well familiar with 99% of what kills people.

Let the doctors do their thing, if you need the zebra specialist, they will refer you.

Which Government Hospital, are you still in Buriram?

Buriram province. Bare in mind that the government allows for farangs to be charged more than a Thai.

Well they would when they're in pain. It's normal.

Thats true...

I was up all night with severe flank pain...  debilitating and agonising..

...  I had a kidney stone and needed an operation, I had liver cancer, I was dying, I had weeks to live....   etc etc.. Pain turned me into a pathetic hypochondriac.

In the ER the following day, still in massive pain (given a good pain killer), I had an X-ray, underwent urological tests, had a CT scan... no issues...   all clear...    Ortho Dr. said it must be an intercostal muscle strain or damage to the cartilage on my ribs... and that was that (I've had a lot of injures, usually from sport... torn tendons, breaks, ripped muscles etc...    the only comparable pain was when I had a kidney stone).

Panic over something very simple (still the total cost to insurance was about 25,000 baht (private hospital) - when all I needed was painkillers, but I didn't know that at the time).

I had a health issue (lung related) last year which floored me for many months.

3 weeks ago I felt strong pain in my left lung when breathing deep.

Given my new years resolution of no hospitalization for 2024 I downed the pain killers and ignored it.

Absent mindedly mentioned the pain to my doc during my scheduled visit (every 6 weeks) last week and she went into a panic and immediately sent me for x-rays.

X-Rays all clear doc decides it must be a muscular issue, adds some pain and muscle relaxant meds to my usual presciption and sent me on my way !

Did you manage to secure one of their private rooms?
