Vietnamese Street Vendor Killed in Collision, Wife Had Just Given Birth
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A Vietnamese street vendor was tragically killed when his motorbike was struck by a car on an overpass in Ayutthaya. The devastating incident occurred just two days after his wife gave birth to their child in Vietnam. The crash took place at approximately 01:30 on 2 April, on the Ayutthaya overpass, heading towards Wang Noi district. Police and emergency responders arrived at the scene to find a damaged black Honda Jazz with its front end crushed, and a Honda Wave motorbike, modified for selling grilled squid, lying wrecked nearby. The vendor’s equipment and supplies were scattered across the road. Underneath the car, officers discovered the lifeless body of Mr. Thinh Vientheng, 39, a Vietnamese national. His injuries were extensive, with severe wounds to his face and head, as well as multiple broken limbs. The driver of the car, a young woman, told police that she had been driving home from central Ayutthaya to Wang Noi when she suddenly collided with the motorbike. She claimed she did not see anything before the crash occurred. Upon hearing the news, the victim’s Vietnamese friends rushed to the scene, overcome with grief. Some collapsed in tears, devastated by the loss. They explained that Mr. Thinh had been selling grilled squid from his motorbike to support his wife and newborn child, who had just returned to Vietnam to give birth. Following the crash, police gathered evidence and took the car driver in for questioning. Authorities have also contacted Thai immigration and the Vietnamese embassy to notify the victim’s family. His body has been sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Pathum Thani for an autopsy, as officials proceed with legal investigations into the case. -- 2025-04-03 -

Son in Psychiatric Crisis Kills Parents and Brother in Family Home
Picture courtesy of Khoasod. A shocking family tragedy unfolded in the district of Chian Yai, Nakhon Si Thammarat, as a man suffering from a psychiatric disorder killed his parents and younger brother in their home before being apprehended by police. The attack, which occurred at around 10:30 on 2 April, saw the suspect wielding a machete and an oil palm-cutting tool to fatally wound his family members. Neighbours, alarmed by the commotion, immediately alerted the authorities. Upon arriving at the scene, police found the suspect still inside the house, armed and refusing to surrender. Officers quickly cordoned off the area and attempted to negotiate with him. The standoff lasted for some time as officials sought to defuse the situation without further violence. Eventually, the suspect was taken into custody. Identified only by his nickname, Mr. Thok, he is believed to be 35 years old. Initial reports suggest he had a history of psychiatric illness and had previously undergone treatment in hospital, though his condition had not fully stabilised. Police are now investigating the incident, and further details are expected to emerge as authorities piece together the circumstances leading to this devastating act of violence. -- 2025-04-03 -
