Personal information on the internet? Do you do it? Do you avoid it?

Featured Replies

Until now I am a nobody on the internet. If someone googles my real name, you find basically nothing.

Currently I am working on a website for my business in Thailand. And I guess for the business it wouldn't hurt to include some information about me. Thinks like my work history, how long I live and work in Thailand, maybe a picture, etc.

Rationally this makes sense, and I don't think there is really a good reason again that.

But somehow, I like my privacy. I like it if people google my name and find nothing.

How about you?

Is it easy to find information about you on the internet? Do you like that?

Do you like to stay private?

Did you have any good or bad experiences after information about you appeared on the internet?

This is about work-related information and something like that. Not what you had for lunch today or that party yesterday.

What do you think about this?

I'm an open book, but don't give out my personal info.  Even posted where I live, as nothing to hide, or fear.

Google my legal name, and absolutely nothing comes up.  I'm a ghost in that aspect.  Only Imm has real info in TH.

Only 1 site in USA has that, real legal name & 1 email account used only for my brokerage account.  Every other site, are completely opened with false info & emails, just for BS sites, inclusive.

Not that I'm on many sites at all.  If the site requires a ph#, I give it a pass.  Photo/vid storage, FB, YT all false info to open.

Don't use CC for anything here anymore, so no ID, address or ph# required for anything.  If not COD, I don't buy it.

Most things in the wife's name, who's surname isn't even the same as mine.

Thanks

And do you do that out of habit. Or from bad experience maybe from friends.

Haven't got a clue to what that means.  Don't need to keep info away from friends.

If I had bad experiences, they wouldn't be friends.

What I intended to ask was if maybe friends of you posted personal information on the internet and then the friends had problems (with anybody, not with you).

I.e. maybe someone's "identity" was stolen, etc.

Don't think any of my friends are that stupid.  Use the same common sense that I do.  Actually family & friends have a very low presence on the internet.

Even myself, I think I have 11 friends on FB, and wouldn't be a friend with anyone that doesn't protect their info.  If I can view their friend's list, then I wouldn't be a friend of theirs.

Again, using common sense.  This is probably the most risky site I'm on, and I couldn't even tell you my email account I used.  Think a yahoo account, that I no longer use.  So nobody can sneak anything in on my laptop.

Don't do porn sites, or dating site, or even sign up or register for news sites.

I have nothing to hide but nonetheless am reticent about getting involved on sites like facebook, twitter /x or similar.

Information can easily be harvested by those that want it. Do I want to share all my personal information with some faceless corporation? No, not really.

Nowadays I make the very occasional posting on here, also on KUMB and the Guardian newspaper website but that's it. Frankly, I already have more than enough to keep me busy - - - - and, just to prove my point, I must now go and feed the chickens 😂

There you are Mark, Elon, Vladimir or Xi or whoever make of that what you will.

I hide nothing 🙂. Google my name and there are many links to my previous business, hobbies, voluntary work etc.

I don't use X, Instagram, Tik-tok, OnlyFans etc!  I really don't give a flying <deleted> what people say or post about me 🙂

There seems to be more than enough information online on just about everyone. Your address, your past addresses, phone numbers, family members, etc .  It’s out there and there’s not much you can do about it. Personally, I don’t worry too much about it, although I recently deleted my Facebook and Instagram accounts because someone was trying to hack them.  Maybe I’ll open other accounts with a fake name and no picture.

Some people get extra attention, and they don’t like it. One of my friends was in public office for a time.  Every time a newspaper published an article about him, all sorts of idiots voiced their opinions in the “comments” section. Some were not so nice. He felt bad about it, although nothing bad ever happened to him in the real world.

Google me you will find nothing about me no phone number on Facebook or any other website
