There’s more than a bit of class hatred and envy in the use of the term ‘Champagne Socialist’

Either envy of wealth or despising those who ‘done good’ for themselves.

I think it is more a dislike of their hypocrisy.

Opinions differ.

I think it has far more to do with criticism of the rightwing, or any rightwing cause that can’t stand criticism, by people with a platform that gets their ideas out to large numbers of the general public.

To be honest, I would not have known where his shirt came from had the press not jumped on this.

Another example to the media making something out of nothing.

To the general audience is looks like a t shirt. An ordinary, everyday item of clothing.

I wonder where the swivel chairs they use come from?

Given my politics I'm hardly averse to people making and enjoying their money 😄

It's when they drive 6 litre Merc's and then support the mayhem caused by Just Stop Oil that I point out their hypocrisy. Of course, being a lefty I'd imagine doing one thing and saying another is second nature to you.

I’ve been around political discussions long enough to be able to spot the spite and envy game play.

Like the one in which Gary Linker is somehow answerable for the whole spectrum of progressive political views because he expresses views that are aligned with some leftwing thinking.

And the line of attack, he’s wealthy and enjoys his wealth.

How dare he!

He can't be that wealthy if he feels the need to advertise products on the publicly funded tv service paid for by people who happen to have a TV in their home. Maybe the £1.5m he gets per year for doing half a days work per week during the football season isn't enough.

Or perhaps he is just greedy and is far from the virtuous person you think he is.

Getting wealthy by covertly adverting Next clothes on the BBC

Or maybe he has a different idea of what constitutes a lot of money than you do.

One of Englands finest strikers and just look at the spurious tosspot abuse thrown at him in this thread

So you think that people who can kick a football when they are young should not face criticism  for anything when they get older ?

Good footballers don't need to follow any rules ever when thy get older ?

David Icke shouldn't be criticised because he was a good goalkeeper ?

Some people are really annoying in English football and rugby, I’m not sure why but the epitomize the arrogance of their national teams Linekar is one and others are Will Carling, Rob Andrew, Ian Botham, John Terry.

Along with TDS, one of the most annoying overused terms of the decade.

How about your stop going on about Trump?

Players are not judged solely on how many goals they score . Linekar specialised in goal tap ins in the six yard box .

He is in the top 20 of England's finest strikers, ranked at number 18 .

He was nowhere near as good as Didier Drogba

Drogba isn't English.

Any chance Lineker will leave the BBC and its archaic rules and move to another channel, where he will be welcomed with open arms?

No, no one else would pay him a fraction of what he gets from the BBC.

He would have to go back to advertising Salt and Vinegar Crisps!

You were speaking about English strikers and then compared to Drogba.

You should have compared like for like.
