Drunk Driver in Sattahip Sleeps in the Road

Featured Replies

22 June, at 05:50, Sattahip Police received a report from a group of cyclists about a car obstructing traffic, with the driver unconscious in the middle of the road.

The incident occurred on Route 332, at kilometer marker 3/900, between Kasem Phon Intersection and Je Intersection, in Sattahip. Rescue units from Kled Kaew Municipality were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, authorities found a white Mazda 2 with the license plate from Sisaket parked on the roadside with its engine off. The driver, identified as a 36-year-old, was heavily intoxicated and had exited his vehicle and fallen asleep in the left lane, blocking traffic. He was found lying on his left side, shirtless and wearing black shorts, deeply asleep. It took officers over ten minutes to wake him. Fortunately, no vehicles hit him, preventing potential injury.

Following the incident, Police Sub-Lieutenant Mongkol Romsaranoi, head of the Wat Khao Khanthamatn checkpoint, questioned Natthapoom. The driver revealed that he had been drinking at a restaurant in Phlu Ta Luang. After the restaurant closed, he attempted to drive home, but found himself asleep on the road about five kilometers away.

The police helped him regain consciousness by washing his face with water and contacted his relatives to drive him home. It is believed that he might have decided to stop and sleep on the road to avoid a potential DUI checkpoint, fearing he could be arrested for drunk driving or cause an accident.
