Average Saleries For Thai Women Who Do Not Have a College Degree

I had to overnight in Surathani town , to get my car serviced.  I went out for a couple of beers with a friend and her friends. all singles, early 30's. a mix of men and women. They spoke limited English. we chatted about music and jobs,, 2 guys had taxis - one was a Grab taxi, the other had managed to own a car. the women were usually sales clerks in retail shops. they earn approx. 12.5k-16k a month. the higher number includes sales commission the lower figure means no or very little commission earned in a month. most of these Thais were single. some lived with parents, had a boyfriend or girl friend. one of the others was divorced with 2 kids at school. rented a house and was making car payments. no support from the ex-husband (which apparently is normal). The singles - I can see managing fine, (just about). Had a good time, practiced my limited Thai and split - as I'm married. I did squeeze out of the the single mother, that, yes, maybe she was in debt (mafia loans) . Despite high schooling, she was happy to pay 10% interest per month on her loans.? I and my expat wife have lived here for 26 years. This was a first for me, to see how younger Thais live. my question is - are these salaries typical for socially capable of working in a senior retail sales job, respectably dressed Thai adults (men and women). cheers,

On average I would say yes.

Probably  more "shocking" would be to  learn how and how long it took to graduate the Thai University of Life Degree to be where they currently are now.

To have lived Thailand for  26 years and never have discovered the reality of such intrigues me.

Pretty simple, the average salary of a Thai woman (or ladyboy) is how much the farang spends on her

Don´t mind this comment. It´s just other lost soul, that think all of Thailand can be found in a bar.

I admire and have full respect for those single young Thai  mothers, some who are highly attractive and yet only stick to an honest but badly paid and tough job,,,instead of ending up in marketing their charms in some freelancer bar or picking up bald overweight falangs in the food courts of Thailand. Full respect to you ladies...🙏

I don't think many foreigners realise how hard life is for single moms in Thailand.

If they have no degree they'll be lucky to earn 9kbht a month (chain shop workers wage).

But even if they are fortunate enough to earn more, many seem to have no money management skills.

My misses friend was unhappy this afternoon (hairdresser) she can make 2kbht/day but no customers today, so no money for food (her and her teen son) until at least tomorrow afternoon. I gave her 400bht, can't have them going hungry.

This was right on spot. On one side there is a person making 9k baht a month and can make a living. After that your wife have a friend who probably make 20-30k per month or more, but can not last one day without income. That´s just what you point out. Really bad money management. But, as you know as well as me, most people only think and plan for each single day. Never any weekly or monthly plans.

However, you made a very good thing, by handing over 400 so the boy can get the food he need. In this case I actually find it hard feeling something for the mother. But, I would probably have done the same. But good one you man.
