A mild earthquake of 2.0 magnitude rattled Koh Samui, a popular tourist destination in Surat Thani, Thailand, late at night. According to the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD), the quake occurred at 12:14 am on July 10 at a shallow depth of 1 kilometer. The tremor was distinctly felt by locals in several regions including Bo Phut, Soi Talad Kao, Lamai, Maret, and Koh Samui.

People reported hearing a sound similar to thunder before experiencing the ground shake. This comes after another quake of slightly higher magnitude, 2.2, struck Sri Dong Yen in Chiang Mai at a depth of 2 kilometers around 6:20 pm the previous day.

The TMD is vigilantly tracking these seismic events to promptly inform the public about any potential threats. Despite the unusual occurrence, there were no immediate reports of damage or injury from the quake in Koh Samui, a region famed for its beaches. The local news source, KhaoSod, confirmed this.

A local resident expressed surprise at the event, stating that it was "quite surprising" and "a bit alarming" since earthquakes aren't common in the area.
