Traveling from Thailand to the UK on a cargo ship.

Recommended Posts

I fancy a bit of an adventure and would like to do this next year.

any idea how to get the ball rolling?

is it easy to organize?

I don't really care where the boat departs from/lands as long as it's Thailand - UK.

I just want an adventure.

any advice appreciated.

thanks.

I've looked at that a few times in the past......the prices quoted were astronomical.

Your best bet is to work the sailing and get paid for the trip......accommodation, if you go, is very, very basic.

I don't expect the ritz or the savoy on board.

as long as I can grab a few beers of a night and there is a bog then I'm good.

I reckon you'll be looking at the fat end of £3000.....plus food and drink on top.

no problem.

I may do there and back!

These days cargo ships don't really want passengers and the prices reflect that.  You'll have a hard time finding one, but the search and research will occupy your time!

Not a happy ending to this story then ☹️

Many many years ago there was a thriving trade in passengers traveling by banana boat.

The passengers would have the same facilities as the officers plus their own cabin.

The ships stewards would take care of them and the cook would make sure food was good quality.

Passengers would have access to the officers mess.

I have no idea if this is still possible but, whilst comfortable enough, it would not be up to cruise standards by a long way.

I've read of people that did it so it must be possible. Eat with the officers. Apparently it's a bit boring as nothing to do for passengers. The OP should head to Phuket and see if he can get a berth on a sailing boat, as crew. That would keep him occupied.

For starters there is no provided entertainment and if the crew have a movie night it will probably be in Tagalog.

Cranberry bog ends you up in Cape Cod. It's wet. Don't you have a very expensive gym membership you can't get out of as well?

Yeah, probably BOB say within a week that he booked the place on this cargo ship and they left and then three days later through some miracle who was able to come back because he got seasick TIT
