Go back with a smile bob and try again.

I wont be going back again.

I'm pretty sure I know why the waitresses acted the way they did.

it's because they now know I'm not a naive tourist and I can speak the lingo.

It's been my experience that many working the bars don't like it when a foreigner speaks thai.

My fault really, I should never have let on that I do.

Back to playing the dumb tourist straight off the boat!

Regular customer is “look kaa brajum”

I doubt if a waitress in a thai restaurant would understand “regular customer”

But I had to try and will never try again.  It seems like most people in this country think like ths: Completely forget about yesterday, deal with today and don't think about tomorrow. As a result I have found out most Thai people have very poor short and long term memories.

Waitresses get paid stuff all. So you are not going to get the brains trust of Thailand serving up food.

It wouldn’t bother me so much if I was a first time customer.

But i’ve been to this place many, many times.

they know who I am.

and they also know that I speak Thai.

perhaps there lies the crux of the issue?

maybe I should only ever play the dumb tourist going forward.

complete with wife beater vest, elephant pants and NY cap.

bob.

Do you tip?

So was the last farang.
You being angry and tight the next farang will get the same treatment.

You could just hold the waitress accountable for her own crap service.

it shocks me that they don’t roll out the red carpet for you and offer up their daughter.

That's easy! You just need a dowry of around 100k or so for the parents.

They all have a price for their daughters. 🤑🤢

I have woken up!

I used to tip.

Now I am sick of the lousy service, even when I have tipped.

So, I figured the money is better off in my pocket because whether I tip or not the service is still lousy.

get it?

I'm in Bangkok, probably not around where you are located, but I have noticed that people are distinctly not as happy as I remember 5 years ago. The friendliness has become rare. I noticed it in Pattaya as well, but i thought that was a Pattaya thing. I'm going to test Chiang Mai next. I have had some strange negative interactions with street vendors in Bangkok that have never happened before. I could not even get one to accept a sale with money in hand.

I think there is something going on with the economy that are making people not happy. That carries over into all interactions, not just money matters.

It's possible, I'm much older now, but I don't see it as me and my behavior looks the same. Age is respected in Thailand so it's not an age discrimination issue.
