Tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms.

Sure, but Asians, or Chinese, and probably Vietnamese, typically have their tea with or after meals, not just before a meal.

And, we DO know that they called for room service at 1:55 PM.

Therefore, the meal untouched on the table was probably not lunch, but ordered for an early dinner.

Therefore, why not eat it?

And, why drink tea before the meal, as the caffeine would tend to decrease appetite.

If they drank poisoned tea, then they must have drunk the tea in the later afternoon hours.

It cannot have been that they ordered a meal, and then they saw the meal, and then they drank their tea?

Also, they had ordered fried rice with a fried egg, it seems.

Nobody likes fried rice served cold!

Why did they not eat it as soon as the food arrived?

In addition, even if they had a microwave oven in their "suite", one microwave oven is NOT enough to heat up 6 large plates of food, and 4 bowls of TomYomGong, while keeping the food warm, so that all could sit down and enjoy a nice meal together.

This is what really seems most bizarre to me:

1. I would rather die than eat cold food if the food was intended, by the chef, to be eaten hot.

2. So, maybe the food got cold, and then they said.... "Mai Ben Rai", and then they all drank the poisoned tea, in unison.

If so, this would be the MOST bizarre ending to one of these investigations that most of us have heard, to date, ....  maybe...

It looks like two vacuum flasks of poison tea and one of the 7 occupant's is missing being the culprit on Thai news 🤔

Yes, I noticed those vacuum bottles yesterday.

BUT, if it was the vacuum bottled liquid that killed them, then WHY is there that metal box of Chinese tea sitting there?

Why have a tin of loose tea sitting there if they were drinking tea from the vacuum bottle.

And, how could the 7th man be sure that all the drinkers would drink from the vacuum bottle, and not drink something else, instead, after the 7th individual had left?

And, then, why lock the door from the inside, unless they were retiring for the evening?

The problem is that this must have been fast-acting poison, since two of the six were unable to even make it to the exit door.

Foaming of the mouth suggests they might have used cyanide. They were probably well organized and knew what they were doing. 2 grams of potassium or sodium cyanide dissolved in half a glass of water on an empty stomach or packed into a gelatin capsule and washed down with a glass of cold water would facilitate a very quick death and not be painful (it's the dose the matters).

So, if this is true, then it will be like.... Don't drink the Koolade, all over again.

I tend to agree that this was intentional on the part of most/all of the six...only because of the white powder that was clearly visible in/around the cups.

Nobody would willingly drink tea with conspicuous white powder, unless they knew what the powder was.

And, also, they might have gotten rid of evidence using the bathroom toilets.

Note:  Fentanyl intoxication DOES cause MUCH foaming at the mouth, too!

From the New York Times, we have corroboration that all SIX drank coffee or tea!

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/16/world/asia/thailand-six-dead-poisoning.html

So, why would they drink coffee and tea before their meal, and not after or during the meal, and most Chinese do?

And, once again, what is the role of the open container of honey?

Was this a purchase made in Thailand as a souvenir, as honey is a very nice gift to be bought by many in Thailand, while visiting.

Also, according to this article, it was only "assumed" that they had been poisoned, and so this does not rule out some sort of mutual act engaged in by all SIX which led to death for all.

But then, why were two of the individuals trying to reach the door, to exit?

=====

One other curious fact:

There were 6 plates of food ordered for 6 people, consisting of fried rice and a fried egg, one plate per person.  But there were only 4 bowls of TomYongGong soup!

What happened to the other two bowls?

In addition, there was a plate of seaweed, and two plates of some kind of mixed vegetables, some sliced Asian cucumber garnishes, and all the coffee/tea cups were missing from the table in the BBC photo image, except for one lone cup.

Who overturned that water bottle in the BBC photo image?

The water bottle was lying on its side, empty.

If we had more information, or all the information available, then it might be possible to say more, and, perhaps, help to suggest solutions to this mystery.

The New York Times is hardly corroboration. In any case they are just quoting from the same unofficial police sources that every other news outlet is quoting.

Each witness provided useful information. According to the data, it is believed that the motive was related to debt issues and there were no other factors involved. The perpetrator is unlikely to be connected to anyone outside the group of 6 deceased individuals, as entry and exit records show that only the deceased entered and exited the room.

Surprised at that conclusion.

six people go in, a 7th person outside, causes poison food/drink to be sent in which  is ingested by the six in the room.

Maybe not the MOST likely, but appears possible, given that most poisoners like to get away with their crime and live another day. Entry records of food and drink appears as important as records of people entering.

no doubt all will be revealed. What am I saying! This is Thailand, nothing will be revealed

What about the Americans who have been living in America for many millennia?

Are they not more REAL than the Real Americans who have only lived in America for centuries?

(So, my point:  The two Vietnamese who had citizenship were REAL Americans, too!  Who knows, maybe they were boat people, too.)

Yes, but the NYT prints ALL the news that is fit to print.

And, they do a better job at checking and corroborating  sources that they either quote, or use as back sources, one hopes.

YES.

I have been saying, and almost screaming this, since yesterday evening!

This MUST have been an act of 6 individuals that happened ALL at the SAME TIME.

And, the poison must have been extremely fast acting because:  Only two had the ability to try to escape, by making it only half-way to the door.

So, right!

Very fast acting poison.

And, at least two, had, seemingly, tried to escape!

Very strange!

Murder-suicide: 6 Vietnamese deaths linked to 10 million baht debt

COVER-PIC-54.jpg

Following the suspicious deaths of six Vietnamese nationals at a hotel in Bangkok, Thai police discovered that one of the deceased, a Vietnamese-American woman, allegedly poisoned her friends before committing suicide with the toxin over a 10 million baht debt.

The Metropolitan Police Bureau of Thailand revealed more details of the case in a press conference, today, July 17, following an investigation into the deaths of the six foreigners, whose bodies were discovered last night.

The deceased were identified as American citizens Sherine Chong (56 years old) and Dang Hung Van (55 years old), and Vietnamese nationals Thi Nguyen Phuong Lan (47 years old), Hong Pham Thanh (49 years old), Dinh Tran Phu (37 years old), and Thi Nguyen Phuong (46 years old).

Dang Hung Van and Thi Nguyen Phuong were a married couple. Police questioned their children and found that they invested 10 million baht in a hospital project in Japan with Sherine Chong. The project had not progressed, leading to a dispute over the funds.

The group, initially planning to meet in Japan to resolve the issue, changed their destination to Thailand due to visa problems. It remains unclear whether the other deceased were also investors in the project.

Seven hotel rooms were booked for the group but only six individuals checked in. The seventh person, a sister of one of the deceased, was not involved in the incident.

The individuals checked in on different days between July 14 and 15, later gathering in a room booked under Chong’s name.

Hotel staff reported serving food and tea to the group for the last time at 1.57pm. According to the deputy police chief, a waiter offered to make tea for the guests but Chong refused this. The waiter recalled that she “spoke very little and was visibly under stress.”

The waiter later left the room and no one else is believed to have entered apart from the six inside. Police say there were no signs of a struggle or a robbery.

Police suspect Chong used this opportunity to lace the tea with cyanide, serving it to others before consuming it herself. Police believe her motive was an inability to repay the investment money.

Cyanide was found in all six teacups, as well as in the blood system of one of the deceased and two stainless tumblers.

Searches of their luggage did not uncover any illegal items but a land litigation document dating back to 2022 was found in Chong’s belongings.

One of the victims, Dinh Tran Phu, was a well-known makeup artist in Vietnam with over 15,000 followers on his Facebook page, Phú Gia Gia (I’m Makeup Artist).

I think that it's incredible and admirable just how fast this case was accurately solved with validated data after good research and investigation.

My only wish is that someone would discover and tell us why the honey became such an important part of the reportage of this loan-investment-based tragedy.

Just checked on wiki since yoiu are such a nice guy

What does a dead body look like after carbon monoxide poisoning?

One classic sign of carbon monoxide poisoning is more often seen in the dead rather than the living – people have been described as looking red-cheeked and healthy. However, since this "cherry-red" appearance is more common in the dead, it is not considered a useful diagnostic sign in clinical medicine.

you didn't mention under the arms, down the flank, across the small of the back, in the hair-line, between the fingers and toes, groin area. Once the body is opened the liver is quite bright as are the lungs and brain.

10 million baht seems a ridiculous amount to carry out such an act..can sense the authorities are rushing to shut the case solved.

Yes.

I do agree, absolutely.

Two of the individuals are from the US, and are citizens.

In the US, I think that very few fairly well-to-do Asians would commit a crime such as this for only a USD286,000.00 debt.

This would be a loss of face, BIG TIME, for their families.

And then, why fly over here to commit the crime?

Surely, for a lot less than this amount of money, one could hire several hit-men in Vietnam, to rub out five middle-aged people.

And, if the supposed/alleged  poisoner had hired a hit man in Vietnam, then culpability would have been very hard to prove.

that is correct.  i remember one hotel in chiang mai or thereabouts had several of these deaths over a period of time.  a couple of bodies were handed out the back window so people wouldn't know there was a problem.  and then there were the two sisters who died the same way in a hotel in southern thailand.

We are talking about the grand Hyatt 5 star hotel in Bangkok. A different kettle of fish entirely

If they all died, why wouldn’t cyanide be found in the blood system of all six? Otherwise how could they have died from cyanide poisoning?

How hard is it to procure cyanide?  What quantity for 6?  Can you travel with that much easily?  Or was it bought in Thailand?

All this for 280k US?

So maybe at  this final meeting it was revealed that these investors were going to call the police?
