Accident Claims the Life of Famous Likay Star "Maneedang"
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. "Maneedang," a well-known villainous actor from the traditional Thai theater form Likay, lost his life in a truck accident in Phichit province. The truck he was riding in lost control and collided with a tree, killing both him and the driver instantly. The accident occurred just a few kilometres away from their destination. On September 7, local police from Srisatchanalai Police Station reported that the accident took place the previous day. The crash involved a six-wheeled truck that veered off the road and slammed into a tree along Highway 101, the route connecting Srisatchanalai and Phrae. The incident happened near Ban Pang Ngiew in Srisatchanalai district. When authorities arrived at the scene, they found a blue Isuzu six-wheeler, registration number from Phichit, badly damaged after colliding with the tree. The front-left side of the truck was crushed, and two people were trapped inside the vehicle. The driver, identified as Mr. Kabin Chuenchob, and the passenger, Mr. Somporn Jansri, also known as "Maneedang," a famous Likay actor from Taphan Hin, Phichit, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Somporn, who was seated next to the driver, suffered fatal injuries when the front of the truck collapsed on impact. Behind the truck, authorities discovered various Likay performance equipment belonging to the renowned Khai Thongkham Likay troupe. Rescue workers from the Srisatchanalai area used hydraulic cutters to extract the victims from the wreckage. The bodies were taken to hospital for autopsy. Pol. Col. Siraphong Koedkunakorn, superintendent of Srisatchanalai Police Station, along with investigating officers, arrived at the scene to assess the situation. Phrom Phaithun, 57, head of the Likay troupe, recounted the tragic accident. He said they were en route to perform at Ban Mae Sam in Srisatchanalai district. His vehicle was traveling just ahead of the ill-fated truck, and they were only three kilometres away from their destination. He suddenly heard a loud crash and rushed back to find the truck had lost control and smashed into a tree. Upon seeing the severe injuries on Somporn's legs, he knew his colleague had passed away. Phrom expressed deep sorrow, as this marked the second time a fellow performer had died in front of him. Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver may have fallen asleep or swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle, causing the truck to veer off the road and hit the tree. Authorities Investigate 149 Myanmar Workers Cramped in 4 Small Houses in Khon Kaen

Immigration officials emphasized that any movement of foreign workers must be reported within 24 hours, while agents responsible claimed the workers had only arrived the previous night. On September 7, police chief Col. Sarayut Kankham of Ban Haet Police Station, Khon Kaen, together with District Chief Pitanon Panya and other local officials, raided an unnumbered rental house in the Non Kluay Hom community after receiving reports that 97 Myanmar workers were residing there. Additional inspections were carried out at another rental house in the Nong Hai area of Ban Haet district, where another 52 workers were found. All 149 workers were brought together for further inspection at the Non Kluay Hom location. Upon checking their passports and entry documents, it was confirmed that all of them had valid passports and legal entry permits. Officials proceeded to verify the names against their documents, which were found to match. District Chief Pitanon Panya stated that local authorities had been notified the previous night of the workers’ arrival by the village head of Non Kluay Hom, who suspected that the group had been brought in from Myanmar, as indicated by their attire. The workers arrived in three buses and were dispersed among four locations, with 40-50 people in each. This prompted officials to conduct an immediate investigation. Upon inspecting the houses, officials noted that the first house was overcrowded with around 40 people, while another house just 100 metres away held 57 more workers. Two additional locations in a nearby village housed 38 and 14 workers. Further investigation by immigration officials is underway to verify if the workers had entered Thailand through legal channels. It was revealed that two Thai agents were responsible for bringing the workers into Thailand via the Ranong border. The workers had reportedly stayed one night in Bangkok before heading to Khon Kaen for employment. Pitanon expressed concerns over the living conditions, emphasising that housing 40-50 people in small homes violated health and safety regulations. If the workers were found to have entered legally, their agents would be required to find suitable accommodations. However, if any irregularities were discovered, the authorities would take appropriate action. The need for migrant workers, Pitanon explained, stems from certain labour shortages in jobs that Thai citizens are unwilling to take. Tragic Hunting Accident: Man Mistaken for Civet Shot Dead in Loei Forest
Picture of the scene of the shooting. In a tragic case of mistaken identity, a 25-year-old man was shot and killed in the forest near Ban Nongsim, Na Haeo District, Loei Province. The incident occurred around 10:30 on September 7, when local police received a report of a fatal shooting in the Ang Taek community forest, located approximately 3 kilometres from the village. Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered the lifeless body of Wuttinan (surname withheld), a resident of Ban Nongsim. He was found lying on his back in a crevice between rocks, dressed in a green t-shirt, black sweatpants, and boots. The victim had been shot once in the back of the neck with a .22 caliber rifle. A shotgun was found next to his body, which authorities collected as evidence. The shooter, identified as 46-year-old Nattapol (surname withheld), also from Ban Nongsim, immediately surrendered to the police at the scene. He handed over the rifle used in the shooting, which was equipped with a scope, along with over 20 rounds of ammunition. Police secured the weapon and arrested Nattapol while the victim's body was taken to Na Haeo Hospital for an autopsy. During questioning, Nattapol explained that he had gone out early in the morning, around 03:00, to tap rubber trees. Unaware that the victim was also in the forest, Nattapol saw movement near the rocks about 20 metres away. Mistaking the figure for a civet, a nocturnal mammal commonly hunted in the area, he fired a single shot through the scope of his rifle. Upon approaching the spot, he was horrified to find that he had fatally shot Wuttinan, a fellow villager. Panicked, Nattapol immediately notified the victim’s family, who then contacted the authorities. He did not attempt to flee the scene. A solar panel technician, on the afternoon of September 7 tragically fell to his death while inspecting the new installation work at a school in Rat Burana district in Bangkok. Police Lieutenant Nathapong Tasee of the Rat Burana Police Station was notified of a fatal accident at a School on Suksawat Soi 19. The victim, Mr. Thanapat (last name withheld), 31, was employed by a private company tasked with installing solar panels at the school. He fell from the roof while inspecting the work. Rescue teams from the Po Tek Tung Foundation, forensic officers, and medical personnel from Siriraj Hospital were dispatched to the scene. The accident occurred between two school buildings. Mr. Thanapat's body was found lying face-up on the ground, with significant head and facial injuries. A large pool of blood and scattered broken roof tiles surrounded the body. According to witnesses, Mr. Santi (last name withheld), 47, the team supervisor, said it was the first day on the job. The team had gathered earlier to discuss safety protocols, including which areas of the roof were stable enough to walk on. Mr. Santi attempted CPR with two other workers. A colleague recounted that Mr. Thanapat had been crossing the roof to join his team when the accident occurred. The deceased had braced himself on the roof tiles, which were old and brittle, causing them to break under his weight. Despite wearing a helmet, the victim was not secured with a safety harness, as there was no structure to attach it to, but planned to later install a fall protection system. Forensic experts and police examined the scene, and the body was transported to Siriraj Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Former Navy Officer Arrested for Running Illegal Abortion Clinic, Admits He Is Not a Doctor

The individual, identified as 55-year-old Lieutenant Thanaboon Kritkulthitthada, was caught by police at a clinic in Soi Phetchaburi 31, Makkasan, Ratchathewi District. The arrest came after local residents reported suspicious activities at the location. Upon raiding the clinic, officers from the Metropolitan Police Investigation Unit discovered Thanaboon performing medical procedures on a patient. When asked to present his medical license, the suspect was unable to provide one. During questioning, Thanaboon confessed that he was not a licensed doctor but had been performing illegal abortions at the clinic. Police Major General Teeradej Thamsutheer, commander of the Metropolitan Police Investigation Division, stated that Thanaboon admitted to all charges and had previously been arrested for conducting illegal abortions. Authorities are now investigating further to determine if there are any additional crimes related to this case. Thanaboon will be charged with practicing medicine without a license under the Medical Profession Act of 1982. The police are also expanding their investigation to see if he was involved in other illegal activities.
