Tour bus crash in Pattaya injures Chinese tourists and motorcyclist

A tour bus filled with Chinese tourists collided with a truck while en route to Pattaya last night, resulting in multiple injuries. The incident occurred at 4.30pm, July 30, on Route 36 (Katinglai-Rayong) in the Nong Plalai sub-district of Bang Lamung district, Chon Buri province.

 

Responding swiftly to the scene were Bang Lamung Police, reporters, and rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation.

 

The accident scene revealed a severely damaged white tourist bus driven by 44 year old Samak Sanehdee, who received immediate first aid before being transported to Bang Lamung Hospital. The bus was carrying 13 Chinese tourists, including three men, seven women, one boy, and two girls.

 

Although visibly shaken, only two tourists sustained minor injuries and were promptly treated before being taken to their hotel in another bus.

 

A black PCX motorcycle was also found overturned at the scene. The rider, 42 year old Marcus Benjamin, was injured and transported to Bang Lamung Hospital after receiving initial treatment on-site.

 

Police also found a six-wheel truck with minor damage in front of the tourist bus. The truck driver, 53 year old Sekson Hanadong, was unharmed.

 

Initial investigations suggest that the motorcycle rider might have skidded due to sand on the road, causing him to cross into the truck’s path. In an attempt to avoid the motorcycle, the truck driver swerved and collided with a central barrier, which led to the bus crashing into the rear of the truck, reported The Pattaya News.

 

Bang Lamung Police are conducting further investigations to clarify the exact circumstances of the accident and the necessary legal actions.

And the motorcyclists to get on the wrong highway....... Hwy 36 is particularly dangerous as it gets a lot of HGV traffic and fst Bankok drivers, and has many dangerous U-Turns. Came back from the Transport Office on my motorcycle that way and felt it dodgy.

Am I right in thinking TAT guaranteed the health & safety of Chinese tourists to the Chinese Ambassador in Bangkok??

The injuries were only minor, but the media pictures really do say that Thai roads are unsafe.
