Man Found Dead After Fire Had Stab Injuries

On August 7, at 16:20 police received a report of a fire at a dormitory building, located in Soi Prachachuen-Nonthaburi 8, Intersection 1, Bang Khen Subdistrict, Nonthaburi. Police were sent to the scene, with firefighters from Nonthaburi Municipality, rescue personnel from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, a medical examiner from the Institute of Forensic Science, and forensic police from Nonthaburi Province.

 

The incident occurred in a seven-story dormitory, in room 611 on the sixth floor. Near the elevator, the charred body of a 22-year-old university student, was found wrapped in a blue duvet, lying face down. The room itself was damaged by fire, with soot, smoke and the residues from a fire extinguisher throughout. The initial seat of the fire was identified near the door, but the only appliance in the room was an unplugged fan, with no other electrical devices found, leaving the exact cause of how the fire was started, undetermined.

 

The forensic pathologist conducted an examination on the victim and found one stab wound to the chest, one cut on the chin, and another cut above the right eyebrow. Additionally, a handful of hair was clutched in the left hand of the deceased. The body was sent for further examination and autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

 

CCTV footage revealed that the victim left his room and exited via the fire escape at 13:51, and came back to his room by the elevator at 14:18, accompanied by a heavyset man wearing a white short-sleeved T-shirt and jeans.

 

Investigating officers reviewed CCTV footage and identified a suspect, believed to have stabbed Mr. Wiswa to death and set the body on fire to cover up the crime before fleeing. Initial investigations suggest that an argument might have escalated, leading to the fatal stabbing. The perpetrator then wrapped the body in a duvet and started the fire before escaping.

A witness, who smelled smoke went to the room and discovered the fire. He, along with others in the building, extinguished it before finding the victim, Sun's body. Initially they thought he was unconscious, but they realised he was dead after pulling him from the room, into the corridor.

 

CCTV footage captured at 15:20 showed a suspect on a red motorcycle leaving Soi Prachachuen 8, later identified as a stolen vehicle from near the victim's university. Friends of the deceased suspected the rider to be a transgender student with whom Sun had previous conflicts.

 

A close friend, aged 21, shared that Sun had financial problems and had become distant recently. He noted Sun's frequent use of dating apps and relationships with both men and transgender women. Another witness, a 32-year-old vendor, mentioned Sun often bought food from her and seemed stressed before his death. She recognised the suspect in the CCTV footage, and state she believed it was a foreign transgender individual who had previously bought from her and spoke English.

 

The investigation continues as police review the CCTV footage and gather more evidence to identify and locate the suspect

Thai university student stabbed and burned to death in Nonthaburi

The Forensic Science Institute yesterday discovered hairs belonging to the suspected murderer of a Thai university student on the victim’s hands. The student was found stabbed and burned to death at his dormitory in Nonthaburi province, near Bangkok.

 

Officers from Rattanathibet Police Station were alerted to a fire in room 611 on the sixth floor of a dormitory in Soi Prachachuen 8 in Nonthaburi province at about 4.20pm yesterday, August 7. Police later arrived at the scene with firefighters, rescuers, and a doctor from the Forensic Science Institute.

 

The rescue team found the scorched body of a 22 year old male university student, Wissawa, wrapped in a light blue blanket. The entire room was damaged by fire. The only electrical appliance found in the room was a fan, which was not plugged into the socket.

 

At that time, police were unable to conclude the cause of the fire, as an electrical circuit fault seemed unlikely due to the unplugged fan.

Wissawa’s body was transferred to the Forensic Science Institute, where the doctor found a stab wound to his chest and two cut wounds on his chin and right eyebrow. Wissawa was found tightly holding the hairs of someone in his left hand.

 

A 27 year old Thai man, Earth, who lived next door told ThaiRath that residents of the dormitory knocked hard on his door and informed him that a fire broke out next door. Earth said he rushed to knock on the door of that room and asked the person inside to come out but received no response.

 

Alleged killer spotted on CCTV

 

Earth attempted to kick down the door to enter and extinguish the fire but was unsuccessful. A staff member from the dormitory later arrived to open the door, at which point Earth immediately used a fire extinguisher to spray the room. It was then that Wissawa’s body was discovered.

 

According to ThaiRath, security camera footage showed Wissawa leaving his room around 1pm and returning at approximately 1.15pm with food. Later, Wissawa was seen leaving again and coming back with another man dressed in a white T-shirt and jeans.

 

This man has become the primary suspect in the case, and the hairs found on Wissawa’s hand are believed to belong to him.

 

Police suspected that the two had engaged in an argument and the suspect stabbed Wissawa to death before destroying all the evidence with fire.

 

The identity of the suspect had not yet been determined, and the next steps of the police investigation had not been made public.

oh dear '   what a horrible nasty person the killer must be ....   the cops will catch him soon enough I suspect. 

very sad and tragic news for Sun's family,  I hope they can find the strength to get through this horrible ordeal in losing a loved one so early in his life.

Autopsy will be the only way to determine the cause of death. The body suffered a lot of burn damage, I have seen pictures of this incident which I can’t post here, so from just a visible inspection of the victim, it will be impossible to determine if he died before the fire.

 

At autopsy the presence of soot in the airways, nasopharynx, trachea, bronchi and lungs is incontrovertible evidence that the decedent was alive and breathing at the time of the fire. The amount of soot and how far it has gone done the respiratory system, will also help determine how long he was still breathing.

Please try reading my post again, I said the soot in the respiratory system will show that he was breathing at the time of the fire, hence still alive.

 

The victim was found to have a stab wound in the chest, no further details are available in the reports, so we have no idea if the weapon pieced the heart, what type of weapon was used or the exact location of the wound.

 

So I will repeat the facts again, only at autopsy will be able to determine the cause of death, which could have been the stab would, could be asphyxiation, could be from direct burning, could be other causes, such as loss of blood or other injuries, such as blunt force, which can often not be visible on a burnt body.

August 8, at 16:05  investigators from Provincial Police Region 1, Nonthaburi Provincial Police, and Rattanathibet Police Station told reporters that they have identified the suspect through CCTV footage, including images of the escape route. The suspect is a 21-year-old man named "Mr. N," who is from a district in the central region of Thailand. Authorities are currently in pursuit of the suspect.

 

An autopsy conducted by forensic pathologists revealed that the injuries to the eyebrow and chin were not fatal. The stab wound to the left side of the chest severed the cartilage and punctured the heart, causing significant bleeding in the chest cavity. However, the victim did not die immediately, as traces of smoke inhalation were found in the respiratory system, though only a small amount was present before death occurred.

Arrest Made in Murder and Arson Case: Suspect "Jae Nat" Captured

 

Authorities from Provincial Police Region 1 have apprehended "Jae Nat," a transgender woman, in Nakhon Sawan Province after they attempted to flee by train following a brutal murder and arson. The suspect is accused of killing and burning the body of a male university student in an attempt to cover up the crime. 
 

Initial investigations reveal that the motive for the crime was a dispute over money. After committing the murder, Jae Nat allegedly sold the victim's mobile phone. The suspect is currently in police custody as the investigation continues.

Suspect 'Natt' Confesses to Killing Student and Burning the Body to Conceal the Crime

 

August 9, at 10:00 AM, police escorted Nattawut, known as Natt , to the crime scene for a reenactment of the events. Wearing a helmet and a blue shirt, Natt refused to answer any questions from the media. The reenactment began in front of the dormitory, near the motorcycle parking area and the white pickup truck, as captured in the CCTV footage from the day of the incident. Security was tight to prevent any possible attacks on Natt during the procedure. The police then took him to the 6th-floor room where the murder occurred.

 

Nattawut, 21, was arrested by a team from Nakhon Sawan Provincial Police, Region 1, and Rattanathibet Police Station at his home in Phayuha Khiri District, Nakhon Sawan Province. He was charged with the murder of Wiswa, also known as "Sun," a 22-year-old student. After committing the murder, Nattawut set the body on fire in a dormitory room in Nonthaburi City. He was later interrogated at Nikhom Bo Khao Kaew Police Station in Nakhon Sawan, with his grandparents present.

 

Nattawut confessed to the crime, citing a financial dispute as the motive. After killing Wiswa, he sold the victim’s mobile phone for 7,000 THB and fled to Phu Thap Boek in Phetchabun Province before returning to his grandparents’ home, where he was eventually apprehended.

 

Rattanathibet Police Station Superintendent Pol. Col. Pisuth Chantrasuwan stated that the suspect’s confession matched the evidence gathered by the police. Nattawut admitted to piling blankets on the victim’s body and setting them on fire. The financial dispute that led to the murder involved a loan of 2,000 THB, later increased to 5,000 THB. During an argument, Nattawut used a knife from the room to stab Wiswa, then threw the knife into the fire and fled the scene on a stolen motorcycle, heading to Bangkok Railway Station.

 

Nattawut revealed that he had known the victim since the beginning of the year through Facebook, and they had been in contact ever since. The murder took place on their first in-person meeting. Nattawut also confessed to stealing a motorcycle, which he used to travel to the victim's room after arriving in Bangkok.

 

The police have charged Nattawut with four offenses: premeditated murder, arson, concealment of a corpse, and theft. The suspect showed signs of stress during the interrogation.
