Recent trip to UK with Qatar air- A very sad, heartbreaking visit.
I had a terrible experience with Australian products, I'm sorry to say. Apart from the beef which is excellent. But I tried an Australian chicken pie. Cole's bagels. And I don't know how such inferior products get sold there. It was terrible. I will stick with the English product, I can't even buy Australian bagels. -

Report Thailand Eyes Tax Holiday to Draw Back 2 Trillion Baht in Overseas Funds
One constant remains in my mind despite all the gobbledeegoop from this bureaucrat. That is, I still don't understand how the Revenue Department would know when the overseas money was 'earned' (this year or before) - and do pension funds and passive income count toward the tax free remittance? Some months ago, another member was referring to the 'first in, first out' principle - meaning money you have in a savings account back home for many years (for example) was savings from earnings already taxed from employment, pension, interest payments, etc. So the remittance of such shouldn't be taxed at all in Thailand. Again how do you prove it? The basic Thai income tax return form is just a simple document with no way to go into details in any case. -

Report Thailand Tightens Grip on Retirement Visas Amid Wealth Shift
I would suggest what is wrong with the article is the headline. The article points out the obsession Thai governments has to shoot itself in the foot with ill-considered schemes or proclamations, and the unthinkable loosing face by U-turning. There is some hope but the alternative venues for retirement look better every year. I have always resisted buying property here as it is a closed market to foreigners with high prices, short term leases or dodgy deals. The latest wealth threat to hit us is the Income Tax scheme, and the news on that is "no news" 18 month into the proposed change. Vietnam, Cambodia or the Philippines is fine by me if the Thai billionaires who run the country don't want us. -

No, do a trip to Australia. All the supermarkets have discounted crumpets (still soft and fresh, round or square or fingers) at very discounted prices. I was there 3 years back (near Sydney) a pack of 6, just discounted for about 30Baht. Not too bad. Plus Coles or woolies low cost cheddar cheeses level 5 aging, very tasty, plus fresh plum or apricot jam. What a bargain. Often went (free bus) to the local Coles of woolies giant markets, bought 2 packs of discounted crumpets plus topping (above), home by 10:30am, one pack of 6 crumpets devoured within 30 minutes, the second pack gone by 1:00 pm as a desert after lunch. what a great life.
