Trump owes millions from two civil court cases, but his investment portfolio offers a staggering portrait of wealth

August 16, 2024

Donald Trump has submitted his annual financial disclosure, and after a year of lawsuits, legal cases, and grifts, the contents of the documents reflect the turmoil surrounding the former president.

...

On Thursday, Trump held a press conference at his private golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey. The former president appeared alongside a collection of common grocery items like cereal, bacon, and ground coffee — ostensibly in an attempt to make a point about the high cost of goods for everyday consumers.

What Trump’s financial disclosures make clear is the canyon of separation between the struggles of working-class Americans, and the man hawking branded bibles and NFT trading cards for quick cash — all while sitting on a massive pile of properties, investments, licensing deals, and brand endorsements.

Reads pretty clear to me....   The king of grifting wants to really become the elected KING of grifting ("king" because he would be effectively immune from criminal prosecution as president

I cannot be bothered to read anything from 'rolling stone', but........ .......            If Trump is in trouble/dire straits then that will make him very, very dangerous.

I think the good times are over for Trump ... He will increasingly be portrayed as a mentally unstable old man who talks incoherently . They will focus on his age , just as he did with Joe B

Hopeless, unreadable but that will probably save us all some time.

The king of grifting wants to really become the elected KING of grifting ("king" because he would be effectively immune from criminal prosecution as president thanks to the recent ruling by his appointed  Supreme Court).

What , and how he talks now is known to many already . nothing new , but he talks less clear by now ... shows his age ...

He will not win like that ...

no chance .

I'll go for the cereal and coffee ...

Trump ?

No thanks ...

He may well have a very large portfolio, but if, as is reported, it is in hock up to the eyeballs (I believe the measured technical financial term is significantly leveraged?) then in cash terms it is pretty useless, and can't be used to cover his debts.

Does the "golden escalator" have a reverse button?

Without Daddy's money he would scrap the dirt from the streets

Not surprising, he did write the international bestseller, The Art of the  Grift, so he certainly knows how to grift with the very best.   His biggest grift by far, of course, is his Untruth Social.

Trump's book was The Art of the Deal (ghost written with Tony Schwartz).

The Art of the  Grift:  Unraveling Donald Trump's Grip on the Conscience of the Republican Party was by Kathlyn Jones (Author)

Thanks!  I had no idea there was an actual book with that title.  I was just having some fun, playing on his Art of the Deal.

I agree that Trump is like any other wounded (psychologically, financially) beast being cornered. I have no doubt he is taking names and numbers for payback if he is given the chance. I can imagine hearing, "My actions were needed in the name of national security and as I took these actions as President, I am immune from prosecution".

Yes, indeed.  Trumpets, on the other hand, seem like they are not getting much enjoyment supporting the convicted rapist, felon, serial liar, and grifter of the highest order.

Can't open it at all now and I'm not going to subscribe to that rag. RS should have stuck to music.

I think most of their fun comes from listening to cackling hyenas and tampon traders.

Did you fail to note that Trump is not just any old grifter but has attained, through his long grifting career, the status of grifter 'of the highest order'.   That should bring some joy to Trumpets.  He's the worst presidet in US history but stands proudly at the top of Grifterland.

It's pointless taking note of any of your carp.

You keep posting this nonsense. No one has been "under Harris"  to date. VP is a ceremonial position - ribbon cutting, visiting other nations, and the such. They set NO policy. But hey, if it makes you feel good getting that off your chest, I hope you enjoy yourself.

Harris has worse ideas than Biden.

That's the opinion of Elon Musk who voted for Biden and Obama. Elon is much smarter than you or Rolling Stone mag.

You're citing a press release source from a very partisan, Republican led House committee.

If you actually read the 2022 CBO report that they're citing, AFAICT, there's nothing in it that compares economics under the Trump presidency vs. economics under the first couple years of the Biden presidency...

Nor are the CBO's actual findings quite what the Republicans claim them to be.

https://www.cbo.gov/system/files/2022-09/58426-Inflation.pdf

How Inflation Has Affected
Households at Different
Income Levels Since 2019

"CBO found that the effects of inflation have changed over time and varied by income group and income measure. The two income measures have followed different paths. Total adjusted income after transfers and taxes increased more than prices in 2020 and 2021, [emphasis added] but such income is projected to fall in 2022 in real terms (that is, after
the effects of inflation are removed), primarily because temporary fiscal policies related to the pandemic ended.

AND

"Using adjusted income after transfers and taxes to measure the effects of inflation, CBO found the following:
• From 2019 to 2022, the share of such income
that households would use to pay for their
2019 consumption bundle decreased, on average, for households in every income quintile because, over that three-year period, such income grew faster than prices. [emphasis added]

• In 2022, as inflation accelerated, the outcome
differed from the outcomes in the previous two years.
The share of such income that would purchase a 2019 consumption bundle increased, on average, for households in all income groups, primarily because temporary federal fiscal policies enacted in response to the pandemic ended, reducing households’ income."
