He, along with his wife and three associates, faces accusations of building a hotel on land intended for struggling farmers in Ubon Ratchathani. Major General Jaroonkiat Pankaew, the deputy commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau, personally travelled from Bangkok to oversee the operation. The suspects were brought in for questioning at the local tambon administrative organisation on Thursday morning, facing serious allegations of land encroachment. Snr Sgt Maj Yutthaphon Srisompong, popularly known as Johnny Mue Prab (Johnny the Enforcer) to his 1.6 million Facebook fans, is accused of investing in a hotel on plots intended for the Lam Dom Noi self-help settlement. These areas are designated by the government to support impoverished residents, enabling them to build homes and engage in small-scale farming. The involvement of Yutthaphon’s wife, Jiraporn Sribura, adds another layer of complexity to the scandal. Surprisingly, the web of accusations also ensnares three public servants associated with the land acquisition, which started four years ago. They include Mitchai Khankham, a village headman; Supachai Thuamsakul, a civil works veteran; and Saman Unwong, head of the local tambon administrative organisation, according to the Bangkok Post. Local concerns about the illegal development first arose when construction kicked off in 2021. Authorities had ordered the cessation of building activities in 2022, but those calls were blatantly ignored. Official channels lodged a formal complaint on July 22 this year, which prompted police to take action. Despite the serious nature of the charges, all five individuals deny any wrongdoing. Meanwhile, Pol Snr Sgt Maj Yutthaphon is entangled in a separate probe concerning his considerable accumulated wealth, though he continues to serve on the force until further notice. As investigations continue, eyes are fixed on the outcomes for 'Johnny the Enforcer' and his associates, unveiling a tale where influence meets controversy.
