On August 24, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, leader of the Pheu Thai Party, along with several Members of Parliament, including former Public Health Minister Dr. Cholnan Srikaew, visited Nan Province to provide morale and aid to those affected by severe flooding. The group’s first stop was at the Nan Municipality, where they met with Mayor Surapol Thiansut and assisted in the distribution of food from a makeshift kitchen set up to help flood victims. The kitchen also served as a donation point for rice and dried food, while the Nan Provincial Public Health Office distributed medical supplies, including medications to prevent leptospirosis.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn personally helped cook eggs and prepare meals for the flood-affected residents. Afterward, she traveled to the Ban Nong Tao Community Hall in Phu Phiang District and Ban Kong Kwai in Mueang Nan District to distribute survival kits, offering encouragement to the local population. She was warmly received by large crowds at each location. The Prime Minister and her team even boarded a flat-bottomed boat at Ban Tha Li to visit those still stranded in flood-hit areas.

In an interview during her visit, Paetongtarn commented on the severity of the flood, noting that many areas were still inundated and without electricity. As the leader of Pheu Thai, she reassured the affected communities that her party’s MPs would continue to distribute food and water. Despite the hardships, she was touched by the resilience of the residents, who greeted her with smiles and waves. She expressed her intention to return more frequently once she fully assumes her duties as Prime Minister.

Paetongtarn also addressed concerns about her inability to visit Phrae Province due to travel complications caused by airport issues and changing weather conditions. Although she wanted to go, MPs from the area were dispatched to manage the situation.

When asked about her concerns over the potential for worsening floods, Paetongtarn noted that in many areas, including Nan, the situation was improving as water levels began to recede. However, she emphasized that maintaining morale was critical. She also mentioned that central Thailand was preparing for potential flood risks and that MPs would be closely monitoring the situation. Despite improvements, she acknowledged that several areas across the north and south, including Phuket, remained of concern.

And if she didn't do it, you would say "she's ignored the flooding in Nan."

Oh woopee doo, a whole bag 1 bottle of water and a meal, what will they eat tomorrow ?

Mr. Golden boots should put his hand in his pocket and not just for a bag of rice, like last time.

Did you visit the affected area and give out food and water, or sit and your keyboard moaning?

damned if she does and damned if she doesn't, but it all looks a bit 'photo oppy'.

I'm not the Prime Minister, but if I was, I wouldn't be in a boat handing out donated food while wearing a baseball cap with my party's name on it. Blatant politicising.

(As it happens, we had a massive storm through here last night and I just spent the morning out with my chainsaw helping some neighbours clear fallen trees on their properties, and have the ant bites to prove it),

So what should Paethongtharn have done instead?

She is the PM and the leader of the party?

Did any other political party turn up to help out?

Good for you helping your neighbours out.

Consider what the PM should do when she has 60 or 70 million people to look after.

A tad harsh as she was the only one from the government to travel and show some concern for the flood victims.

Where were all the others, fine dining themselves somewhere without a care in the world?

I feel a little sorry for her, I think she would like to make many changes but with her megalomaniac father that's going to be difficult.

She doesn't have the balls to tell him to stay quiet at home and take care of the grandchildren like he promised he would, and stay out of politics.

Typical know-nothing farang comment. Grow up!

Yes, a photo op, but as stated above, if she was not visible, the mob would be claiming that she has no concern for the victims.

Should have got the army out and setup field kitchens and give the locals some proper food for a few days, this is just some publicity stunt, looks like a packet of mama and a bottle of water, Shameless I wonder what she was eating later?

I am sure she waited for the cameras.

And after the picture were taken her "job" was done.

Yes, it is pathetic. But it seems this is one of those things which politicians all over the world do and which some voters want to see.

I see she didn't wear her high heels and stilettos like her mom did when visiting the north of the country.

To her credit, she wasn't tossing rolls of paper towels like a certain ex president.....
