Thaksin Labels Pheu Thai Dissolution Lawsuit ‘Baloney’

Thailand's former Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra, often seen as the real power behind ruling party Pheu Thai, has dismissed a lawsuit seeking the party’s dissolution as "nothing but baloney."

 

Thaksin, father of the current Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, remains unperturbed by this legal challenge, which accuses him of illegally exerting influence over the party. Due to previous convictions, Thaksin cannot officially be part of any political entity, although his influence has been undeniable.

 

The lawsuit, recently filed with the Election Commission, claims Thaksin's actions amount to an illegal control of Pheu Thai. However, the billionaire has waved off these allegations with characteristic bravado.

 

Thaksin's adversaries argue that his behind-the-scenes manoeuvres have significantly shaped the current Pheu Thai-led government structure. This includes pivotal decisions such as the appointment of former real estate tycoon Srettha Thavisin as Prime Minister and the allocation of key cabinet positions among coalition partners.

Despite the gravity of the lawsuit, the Pheu Thai ranks, including Prime Minister Paetongtarn, remain publicly unruffled. When questioned about the case, Paetongtarn offered no comment, reflecting the party’s strategy to downplay the issue.

 

Supporters of Thaksin and the Pheu Thai party claim the allegations are baseless.

 

They argue that Thaksin has merely been providing “solicited advice” to his daughter, as any father would. Official responses from the party uniformly dismiss the claims as legally and practically unfounded, though members often refer to Thaksin as “boss."

 

The Election Commission, an ostensibly independent body, now holds the petition. Past dissolutions of Thaksin’s parties, Thai Rak Thai in 2007 and People’s Power in 2008, were based on electoral rigging. However, this new lawsuit addresses different issues, primarily Thaksin’s indirect but pervasive influence.

 

Historically, Thaksin founded the Thai Rak Thai party in 1998, serving as Prime Minister until a coup in 2006 forced him into exile. The subsequent dissolution of his political groups and their reformation into newer entities have been a pattern, indicative of the ongoing political turmoil in Thailand.

 

It remains to be seen how the Election Commission will act. Still, Thaksin’s confidence and the Pheu Thai party’s apparent solidarity suggest they are prepared to face this latest challenge.

i seriously doubt his persuasion was done indirectly. More likely he is giving orders and the PTP and his daughter are following them.

His greed and mega self serving ego  drive him to the forefront  of Thai politics. So much for his promise to stay in the background with his grandkids.

Some people learn from their mistakes. Some people even learn from mistakes from others.

It seems Thaksin thinks if he does the same mistakes again and again that one day he will succeed.

I am sure someone will explain the errors of his thinking to him. It's just a question of time.

Not long after he got out of his enforced stay in a prison hospital, assuming he was ever actually in there, I recall him musing that his daughter might rep[lace Srettha as the next PM. It sounded ridiculous at the time, yet here we are 6 months or so later and look who's the PM. Thaksin and his whole family couldn't care less about the Thai people, they're only in it for themselves.

Everybody knows , but why does nobody tell it as it is ...?

He is the de facto boss of Pheu thai , his daughter is PM , his cronies occupy the senate , Constitutional Court and Election Commission , etc ...

His political manoeuvres are not allowed for a convicted but pardoned criminal .

He wants Thailand back to how it once was . ( while he was PM ) .

There is no move forwards with him , only backwards ...

But thai people want to design their own future ...

I hope Thaksin falls over his meddling , and , or , his possible 112 conviction .

Well, but it's still influence. By words and actions. See his visions some days ago. It was not the PM speaking but a convicted criminal and father of the unelected PM.

Pita and his party too said that they were not worried about the possible dissolution of their party and it leaders banishment for 10 years of holding office in Thailand.  I guess we will see how much power Mr. Thaksin still retains.  Would be nice if we could have some stability for a change.

Am I correct in believing he is a convicted criminal and that there is still a charge against him that requires him to stand trial in 2025 ! If this is the case why is he allowed to interfere in the running of government.  I seem to recall that the Leader of Reform Pita was banned from any involvement in Thai politics for the next ten years only last month so why if I am correct is a convicted criminal allowed to influence the Government of the day !

The EC had no problem finding against Move Forward Party, who had been elected by the people, for the people. No doubt under orders. It is high time this destructive thuggery was shut down. Put the Thaksin family in jail where they belong and disband their Party of movers and fixers. The biased and paid for investigation committee also need to find othe jobs so that Thailand can take their place in the world with honour instead of the Joke it is fast becoming since the coup.

How can anyone prove that Thaksin is meddling in Thai politics. He can make demands in private which he probably does. The difference with Move Forward was that the MFP did everything in the open.
