Just for you, Lou, and I type extra slowly, so you can understand better:

the "tropes" are those same old statements: Justice will be served, support will be provided, bla bla

same thing over and over for every crime that's publicized, yet these crimes are now nearly a daily occurrence.

Could equally be that people are taking it more seriously and victims are less afraid to report it.
