Elderly Thai Teacher Bribes to Avoid Prosecution for Sexual Assault

An elderly, retired teacher from Ubon Ratchathani, a province in Thailand, gave a 5,000 baht bribe to a woman in an attempt to escape legal repercussions for sexually abusing her 10-year-old granddaughter. The woman, disgruntled by her neighbor’s illegal act, pleaded for justice by employing local social media influencer, Charnwit Yodsingha, to publicly disclose the incident on August 28.

 

The mother of the victim revealed that the assault occurred at the accused's residence on August 9. However, she only discovered the details of the offence days later. The perpetrator, who is a neighbor, had lured the young girl into his home under the disguise of concern for her health by suggesting she weighed herself because she looked too thin.

 

During the incident, the elderly man inappropriately touched the girl and committed lewd acts. Startled, the youngster fled from the house, witnessed by her grandmother. After being questioned about what transpired, the girl revealed her experience.

 

Nevertheless, the grandmother, instead of seeking legal recourse, tried to extract 5,000 baht from the accused to keep quiet about the misconduct. It was only when the victim's mother noticed that her daughter was visibly distressed around the offender, that the incident came to light.

 

 

 

 

In her pursuit of justice, the mother deemed the 5,000 baht inadequate compensation for her child's traumatizing ordeal. Consequently, she decided to report the crime at Mueang Ubon Ratchathani Police Station and forward the details to the influencer.

 

Upon exposure, the offender threatened the mother with legal action, asserting he had a skilled attorney friend. He even threatened the mother and daughter with physical harm, claiming to be a sniper.

 

ThaiRath, a local news agency, stated that the police instructed the young victim to have a medical examination to support the case. Subsequently, a specialist in children’s issues was brought in to gather more details from the girl concerning the incident.

Grandparents are afforded too much say, and too much responsibility for kids here and they often fail. They are not parents. 

 

This teacher creep should be in prison.

There is no profiling done to be a teacher in Thailand. Any pervert can be in charge of your child or classroom and until they are caught, there is nothing that can be done. The teachers in Thailand command an excessive amount of authority over the kids as well. Most children would be afraid to say anything to family should their teacher touch the wrong places or actually sexualy abuse them. Peer pressure would also prevent that. We as parents always need to be watching our childs behavior to be able to see signs of abuse in the schools. Most times it is not enough. The school system needs to do psych screening and personality screening for all the teachers. So many have issues like violence and control issues that would deem them a risk to teach kids. With all the money the government spends on the school system ( one of the highest amounts in the world) surely they can use some of that money to ensure the type of teachers being hired.

Seems the man was asked for a payment from the grandmother and paid it.  The mother thought that was not enough and decided to go public for that reason.  Not to the police to arrest the offender. Not much thought for the welfare of the daughter. Seems money was the main concern.

Several years back a female teacher here in CM, at a gov't school, hit a teenage boy in her class about 20 times with a thick cane (one incident) leaving severe bruising and a broken bone.

 

Parents demanded to speak to the teacher and they cornered her in her classroom. Boy's mother is also a teacher, at another gov't school.

 

Errant teacher refused to listen to any suggestion that hitting kids like that in school is now illegal.

 

She strongly insisted that the law did not apply at her school and teachers had the right to apply whatever punishment they chose and the teacher insisted there was no legal / regulations requirement to report such incidents to the school head or the police.

 

Parents went to the head who agreed that teachers can and do make their own decisions in this area and agreed that the law does not apply at her school, and refused to discuss further.

In addition, parents have the responsibility to explain about sexual abuses even minor ones, and assure their child that there will be no negative consequences from the parents if the child advises them of such activity by any teacher, adult or other students or anyone!

Laws apply at every school here, but they are disregarded as the parents also sometimes agree that using a weapon is okay behavior. My daughter told me her one Thai teacher hit her with a stick on the butt. I went to the school and actually observed this teacher holding a stick and hitting the kids when they answered slow or incorrectly. In the head. I told the school supervisor bout this, that if this continued that teacher would be fired, and if anyone hits my daughter they would go to the hospital. She talked to her and it stopped for awhile. I again went to pick up my daughter and saw the same teacher holding a stick, and hitting the kids. I again told the supervisor, who apologized and said she would again tell the teacher to stop.

 

People here are ingrained towards corporal punishment and abuse towards children,and this carries over into adulthood, with one generation after another thinking using weapons is normal. It isn't, and needs to be stopped. When I used to go to the village clinic here, I would see one or three parents holding sticks, and swatting their kids when they got a little out of line, so it's obvious where this behavior starts. Putting people in jail and taking their money is a good deterrent, but it needs to be done immediately. In this case, this man needs to go to jail. A parent who just looks for cash compensation when something is done against their child isn't a parent. And there are too many grandmas taking care of kids here, and it shows in the way they act when they are teens.

If you had read the article carefully you would have noticed that, while granny would have settled for 5k Baht, Mummy felt this was not enough and wanted more. Only when more was not forthcoming did she go to the authorities. TIT. Money counts above all else here.

I'm not not necessarily an advocate of vigilante justice, but sometimes when the system is not working and when nobody will take responsibility, action must be taken, even if it's outside the system. That teacher needed a beat down.
