Paetongtarn's Leadership Under Scrutiny Amid Ethics Allegations

Thailand Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra faces potential impeachment as deputy leader of the Palang Pracharath Party, Paiboon Nititawan, accuses her of dishonesty and unethical conduct. Allegations have surfaced following her failure to uphold promises regarding the formation of a sustained Pheu Thai-led government coalition.

 

Paiboon cited a precedent involving former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, who was deemed severely unethical by the Constitutional Court for appointing a controversial minister. This ruling led to the abrupt end of Srettha's tenure earlier this month. Paetongtarn, daughter of influential politician Thaksin Shinawatra, might similarly face impeachment due to breaking her coalition promises.

 

Supporting this, Paiboon detailed how Paetongtarn had initially secured 39 votes from Palang Pracharath MPs for her prime ministerial bid by pledging to maintain the coalition. However, failing to include Palang Pracharath in the government, Paetongtarn is now seen as having reneged on her commitments, questioning her leadership integrity.

Paiboon linked Paetongtarn's situation to Srettha's case, suggesting her actions may also be regarded as evidently dishonest and unethical. This could potentially result in the loss of her premiership.

 

Meanwhile, tensions have risen within the political landscape. Palang Pracharath, led by Prawit Wongsuwan, was recently ousted from the Pheu Thai-led government. Nonetheless, a faction of Palang Pracharath MPs, guided by Secretary-General Thammanat Prompao, continues to support the coalition, painting a fragmented political scene.

 

In another layer of complexity, a lawsuit pursuing the dissolution of the Pheu Thai Party has been filed with the Election Commission. This claim argues that Thaksin, despite being legally banned from party leadership due to previous convictions, still exerts control over Pheu Thai, contravening electoral laws.

 

Paetongtarn's political challenges amplify amidst ongoing efforts by her father Thaksin to steer coalition partnerships, further illustrating the intense scrutiny and political rifts shaping Thailand's government dynamics as key figures navigate these contentious allegations.

Can't happen. PTP would leave the coalition. I have been saying for months that a destabilisation of the current govt. is at play by the forces that want the status quo of the military royalist establishment. This is another step down that road. Allowing Thaksin back was also part of the plan. Am I being too much of a  cynic/conspiracy theorist?

Remember, this is Thailand and people, even "influential HiSos" have to tread carefully when making statements/accusations as they could easily be hit with Defamation lawsuits, even if they are speaking 100% truth.

And the media has to be careful as well. 

Which makes it difficult for people to call a Durian a Durian even when everyone absolutely knows it's a Durian because the Durian might be offended at being called a Durian and file a Defamation lawsuit against those who claim the Durian is a Durian.

Not to mention the danger of violating the Lese Majesty laws - which apply to more than just discussions of those we can't discuss.
As Thaksin himself will soon have to go to court about as well. He still has those charges pending.

And remember how not long ago he tried to flee the country (again) by claiming he needed to go to Dubai for "medical consultations" ?

His request was denied (lol - I wonder if they too thought he was going to do a runner) - and then the whole "medical issues" he needed to go to Dubai for apparently cleared up all by themselves.
(Unless the media missed him going to a local, private hospital for treatment ? It's not like he'd take advantage of his own 30 baht healthcare scam anyways !)

I meant Prawit for PM after a coup. There hasn't been one for a while; it is vital to maintain such an important tradition.

The soft coups will turn into a full on coup. It's on it's way and the planning is ongoing. The whole farce of the last election and bringing Thaksin back is all part of a long term plan by the military royalist establishment. Their power and money will not be threatened by anyone.
