Smart Home automations - anybody using?
Shelly has devices for that. I thought about installing many of them in my breaker box. But then I thought again and now I will only use these mini devices for some power users like my ACs. Shelly PM Mini Gen3 - All products - Shop - Shelly If I wanted to log how much power my induction hobs use, then I would need 40A versions, which, as far as I see, are difficult to get and expensive. What would it help me if I would know how much power I use for those induction hobs? I use them when I need them. And otherwise, they are off. I wouldn't use them more or less if I would know exactly how much power they use. -

Revisiting History: The Unlikely Campaign to Vilify Winston Churchill
You haven't mentioned WW2 or the Japanese at all. All you want to do is blame Churchill. If the Japanese had not invaded Burma, so threatening British India and forcing at least 1/2 million Indians to flee back home, then the strain on food supply would have been far less. -

Thailand's 5-20 Year Visa Now a Bit Cheaper
Agreed, I'm planning on paying myself 2.4m thb and that gives a tax rate of about 22%. I'm OK with that. Would pay myself more and the Thai gov would get more money if it was a flat 17%, but I don't consider paying upwards of 25% tax a deal for what you get here. But if they make this worldwide income thing, then they'll get 0 from me and by just talking about it they've made me consider backup plans that may take me away from paying any tax to them even if it never comes in. -

Smart Home automations - anybody using?
For me that will never happen, because I don't invite those companies into my home. Home Assistant works fine without internet connection. There is no need to be always connected to the cloud. -

Springfield, Ohio man reported Haitian migrants snatching geese out of park 2 weeks ago
Related story in Ohio. US News: Ohio officials reveal why man in viral photo was holding two geese “The anonymous man who was snapped carrying the bodies of two bird’s earlier this week was removing them from the street after they were hit by a car, the Ohio Division of Wildlife confirmed to TMZ”. “There was no evidence he was taking them home to eat or that he is a migrant, the agency said”. https://nypost.com/2024/09/14/us-news/why-ohio-man-in-viral-photo-was-holding-two-geese/ -

Do you want President Harris to pardon Trump?
Nice try, no cigar. That wasn't the point you were making as you admitted earlier. Literally, I don't know how I could have been more consistent with those 2 statements. -

No Honey No Money
Even though my wife is very smart, I do not get much intellectual stimulation from the relationship. But, I get so much more. And in all of the relationships I was ever in with really smart women in the West, who I got intellectual stimulation from, there was also so much grief to contend with. Such combative women. So much competition. Yikes. Thrilled to death to have left all of that behind. When I was only in the relationship for a year or so, I had dinner with a very sharp American friend. I asked him about that. He laughed. He said, when you feel the need for intellectual stimulation, call me. We can hook up for the meal, and break down the origins of the cosmos. Do not fret. That same brain that gives you that stimulation, also tends to give you so much grief, it is not worth it, on any level. Get over it. Enjoy all of the other qualities, that make your day so delightful and fulfilling. Great advice, that I have followed to this day. I learned long ago that an intellectual woman, who can match me intellectually, also tends to be a combative woman, and the chance of harmony is low. I for one, love a harmonious house, where my woman is joyful and light hearted, with a great sense of humor, and an amazing attitude toward life, and us. No need for a change, as I will never find anyone better. Just my point of view. Whatever works for you, stick with it. I am always looking for harmony, in a relationship. Nothing beats a quiet home, with an outstanding woman who is a great mate, a fun person to be around and always has your back. Some of us possess that great fortune in life. Some, like you say, don't or won't even look for it, or even consider it a possibility. Some are so broken, they don't even consider themselves worthy of a life like that. And some are so indoctrinated, they come here and don't know that is even the objective. -

Do you want President Harris to pardon Trump?
And yet the 'founder' and contributors to the Constitution were all out spoken and basically criminals for speaking their mind. Go figure. You apparently haven't a clue what 'Freedom of Speech' means to free thinking people. Maybe this will help you understand. Read it very slow, and let it sink in ... ... “I may not agree with what you say but I will defend to your death my right to say it" ... Patrick Henry, one of those outspoken criminals from the Revolution. Probably pinch most of it from Voltaire, as credited with partial part of quote. -

What’s the best area in Thailand for expats to settle for long-term living?
What's not to love? Well, other than that burning in the background. Lumyai season. They cut the trees back after harvest and burn the branches. Not bad this time of year as there is rain, wind, and no inversion layer. In March you wouldn't be able to see those mountains. Burn season is the primary Suck out here. The other 9 months are great! Imho. -

Smart Home automations - anybody using?
I use Home Assistant. Stand alone, it does not need internet connections like Google or Alexa. When I renovated my apartment, all electrical boxes have two plastic pipes. One for main voltage, one for low voltage (LAN, 5V - 24V for LED light, etc.) I use Shelly devices like this Shelly Plus i4 - All products - Shop - Shelly ESPHome LED controllers, and Sonoff NS-Panels. NSPanel - SONOFF Official I have ordinary light switches installed, but none of them are directly connected to any lights or main voltage. The Shelly devices detect the status of the switches and in Home Assistant I can assign what the switches should do. The idea is that anybody in my home can use ordinary switches because people are used to those switches. At the same time, I can control everything with a phone, tablet, PC. I also bought already motion detection devices. Sometime in the future I will have automations that light goes on or off depending on people in the room, time of day or night, etc. I am looking forward to optimizing this over time. I can easily change any devices, cabling, power supplies, controllers. I don't plan to ever connect it to the cloud. It's not necessary. I can have private remote access if I want that. Currently I only use that to switch on my AC when I am 5min from home. This is how it looks at every room entrance. Ordinary switches, and a programmable NS-Panel. -

Is the Tax compliance going to be linked to Visa issuance ?
Yes we agree that. It was the way you wrote the para's that made me see the statements as contradictory. No biggie, as long as we're all clear. -
