Driving Times To Cha-am From Kanchanaburi

Featured Replies

Hi all

Planning a trip down to Cha-am on Sunday. Drive down in the morning, return Monday morning (one night in hotel).

The mrs insists its only a couple of hours from where we live in Kanchanaburi. I just cant see that.... i got the bus from BKK to Hua Hin once and it took 3 hours.

Any advice on driving times?

Best, and thanks.

Sure, between 2am and 4 am.

Other times, make it 4 hours, maybe 5. No wonder Hua Hin is our overnight stop between BKK and Surat Thani.

If you are going via Ban Pong it will take longer. If you know the minor road routes to get you to the A4 it will save some time. Fri, Sat, Sun are the busy days with lots of Thais heading for Cha Am. You'll know how bad the taffic is once you reach where the A35 from Bangkok joins. There is also a lot of roadwork between Phetchaburi and the Cha-Am. I usually go on weekdaty to avoid the traffic and my trip is 147k and takes under 2 hours. If you like good food and draught beer you should try Crawford's Irish Bar, it's just at the back of the bus station.

P.S. Be wary of the crazy drivers you get quite a few on this trip that do 130-140 and weave all over the road.

Have a good trip!
