A landslide has struck Mae Ai District, Chiang Mai, on the afternoon of September 10 at approximately 15.00, with at least six people reported missing following heavy rains that began earlier in the morning. Local residents have expressed fear as the situation continues to unfold and there are further risks of more landslides.

According to reports, continuous rainfall has caused flash floods and severe flooding along major highways, particularly in Moo 4 and Moo 5, from the Mae Ai Agricultural Office to the Lam Nam Ai Bridge. Several provinces in northern Thailand, including Mae Ai, have been affected by flash floods, landslides, and swollen rivers.

Reports from Doi Laem village, Mae Ai District, indicate that a landslide there, has left at least six people missing, but the exact number of affected residents is yet to be confirmed by authorities.

Initial reports suggest that village headman Yut went to monitor the situation and warn villagers, but was swept away by the landslide. The body of a unidentified child has been located flosting in flood water, but can not yet be reached by rescuers, due to the conditions.

The situation remains critical, and rescue efforts are ongoing as authorities assess the damage and search for the missing.

In the aftermath of the landslide in Mae Ai district, Chiang Mai, authorities have recovered two bodies, while one person has been injured and four remain missing. Rescue efforts continue to face challenges due to difficult terrain and disrupted communications.

The landslide occurred in Ban Doi Laem, Village 9, Mae Ai Subdistrict, following days of heavy rainfall. The initial reports indicated that four people were missing and one had died. As of now, search and rescue teams, including border patrol officers and military personnel, are on-site trying to access the affected areas.

According to the latest updates, torrential rainfall has been recorded across various monitoring stations in the region, including 110 mm of rain at Doi Lang Station and 160 mm at Ban Lek Nai Pa Yai Station. This excessive rainfall has triggered flash floods and landslides across Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park in the Mae Ai district.

Third Army Region personnel have been deployed alongside border patrol officers and local administrative officials to assist the villagers of Ban Mok Pao, Mae Sao Subdistrict. The landslides have rendered the roads between Ban Doi Laem and Pang Ton Khong impassable, further complicating rescue operations.

Seven homes have been confirmed destroyed by the disaster. One of the recovered bodies was found buried in a cornfield, while the other, a child, was swept away by the floodwaters. Due to damaged communication lines, rescue teams are struggling to maintain contact with authorities and coordinate the response.

Efforts to locate the missing four individuals are ongoing as the situation remains critical.
