Top Trending EV Cars in Thailand

IMO the majority of EV's I see in Chiang Rai are BYD.

 

I would be wondering about the support levels of these obscure brands. How many would have service shops in Chiang Rai or Udon Thani if something goes wrong?

the xiaomi su7 is a good-looking car, and at this price, i'd be willing to take a risk!

keep in mind, it's xiaomi's first car, so they'll learn and improve quickly ...

 

btw, 30 years ago, i considered buying a jaguar because i loved the design, but i didn't go through with it.

i knew how unreliable it could be and that it would be too expensive in the long run ...

i agree, a few of the newer ev brands will likely disappear from thailand. some may only maintain a few main

branches in big cities and will no longer have any presence in remote areas like nakhon nowhere.

with brands like mg, byd, changan, and neta, i don’t think you need to worry ...

they look great and feel lovely inside these day, but when all these electronic components fail, there won’t be a chance in hell of them getting repaired in thailand.

 

after a few years, the likes of Honda, Toyota etc will pull out (as Ford has largely done) and then we are stuck with Chinese manufacturers - and the prices will sky rocket.

 

So that’s the plan, it’s what the Chinese government do.

Still plenty of MG ZS EV D models for sale at B599K or X model  at B699K

And confirmed by your wife that prices are valid even though MG never updated their website

That pricing was last month, so I'd be surprised if any were left.  Nice find though If you could get one at that price.   Considering the Neta V is ฿550k.  Nice value that it is over other entry level cars (ICEV) ... think all would be much happier with a ฿599k ZS  :coffee1:

Plenty of dealers have for sale at B599k/B699K  in the MG ZS EV CLUB THAILAND facebook group

it should be explained for anyone thinking about buying the current MG ZS EV models the reasons why price reductions and the pros/cons versus its upcoming replacement due either Motor show December or Motor Show March

replacement model is MG S5 assuming they don't change name for Thailand 

The major change for the MG S5 is that it is likely to be using the  dedicated electric vehicle (EV) platform of its popular MG 4 hatchback. which means the mg lifetime battery warranty shold be available

There is only a few Neta V1 available now priced at B384k they were selling at B369K at one point to reduce stock

Neta V 2 starting price is B429K

That's some inexpensive transportation.   Remember when we bought the ICE version of the MG ZS (2020), and I think we looked at everything, Under ฿700k mark.   

 

Nothing was worth the asking prices.  Only one that actually interested us, was the Nissan Note, of all things, but new model, and I'm not one to be a guinea pig.  Honda Jazz was nice also, but my buddy had nothing nice to say about Honda dealers.

 

Ended up at MG, actually to check out the POS MG3, see if they made improvements, as been out for a few years.   Nah, still a POS ... and over in the corner, that ZS.   Test drove holy crap, I like it.   Back home, researched the hell out of it, went back & bought it, 695k, . mid version at entry version price, as on sale.  Only 3 versions back then, and didn't want more electronics or sunroof of the top end version.

 

That turned me off ever buying another JP badged cars made in TH.  Owned 2 Vios & Mazda 2, served us well, but never again.

 

Stop me if I told you this before :cheesy:  OK, for the newbs, Updated BEV version (2022) came out ~1.5 yrs later, along with 240k 'please buy' govt incentive, so had to place an order.   6 months to research, make sure we want it.  No real competition, then BYD hit the market that month or so.

 

Didn't even test drive the ZS EV, as didn't see the the point, since same size, comfy sitting it, so no real difference, all wee bit better than 2020 version.  Picked it up 5 months later.   Sold the now 2 yr old / 40k kms ICE version.

 

Quite happy with it since, and performance impressive over the ICE version.  Hence why us BEV fanboys strongly suggest, take an EV for test, if just curious, or want to prove us wrong.

 

Why the yarn ... this price war is great, and lots of bargains out there, before next years new stock.   Seriously if in the market, especially for a knock around town car, you can't go wrong with the BEVs now on offer.  Less than 5-6-700k baht for some decent 'new' cars.   All having 8 yr battery warranties.   Hard to beat, seriously.

 

Much better than the JP  badged, made in TH, POSs they are offering for more, that cost more to operate, maintain, and perform poorly.

 

Just my experienced & bias opinion.

Personally I think on the low budget models the MG ZS EV has a number of good points

Metal casing to protect battery

as far as I know its only the MG ZS EV, EP+ and ES that have modular batteries 6 batteries in the pack  

so if 1 battery is suffering from serious battery degradation the replacement cost of a single battery is approx B72K

We know the current prices for current model

I suspect the replacement model pricing will be higher that the current pricing but that is a pure guess

BYD are affordable unlike most of those listed above.  EVs only become accepted if an average Thai can afford one without going deeply in debt.  The costs of some of these cars are the price of a townhouse in a gate community.

Well done on your homework. Just wondering, you seem to be discussing MG ZS which is not a EV. My comments were about the EV market.
