The cool season has arrived early in Chiang Mai, with temperatures dropping to 9°C at Doi Inthanon. In anticipation of the 2024 tourist season, the head of Doi Inthanon National Park has announced the opening of two new “unseen” attractions for the first time. Visitors will be able to explore the beauty of Pha Ngaem Luang and Ban Mae Aeb Nai, offering natural and cultural experiences, including scenic terraced rice fields and waterfalls.

According to Mr. Kriengkrai Chaiyaspecial, the head of Doi Inthanon National Park, these new sites will offer unique travel experiences for visitors.

The first spot, Pha Ngaem Luang, also known as the “Two-Season Cliff” in Mae Wang district, is a round-trip nature trail about 5 kilometres long. Guided by local communities who are dedicated to preserving the environment, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy stunning views and learn about forest conservation efforts, particularly in fire prevention. The trail is similar to the popular Kew Mae Pan route and features the beautiful red rhododendron flowers.

The second destination, Ban Mae Aeb Nai, offers a cultural journey where visitors can experience traditional Karen ways of life, including their agricultural practices. Visitors can take a day trip to explore the picturesque landscape of terraced rice fields and waterfalls. This attraction will limit the number of tourists to small groups in order to preserve the natural environment and minimize the impact on local communities.

Tourists are invited to prepare for these “unseen” locations as they open to the public for the first time. Some areas will have restricted access to protect the environment and reduce the impact on the delicate ecosystem.

This morning, Doi Inthanon recorded a low of 9°C at the summit, while Kew Mae Pan viewpoint, known for its sunrise and sea of mist, measured 12°C. At the Doi Inthanon National Park office at kilometre 31, the temperature was a comfortable 16°C.

For those who love the cold, the early arrival of winter promises even cooler temperatures in the coming days. However, scattered rain is still falling, with 32 mm of rainfall recorded at Kew Mae Pan, 28 mm at the summit, and 25 mm at Mae Tia station.
