In a shocking incident, a monk has been arrested on October 19, for allegedly murdering a village head using an axe after being expelled from the temple due to his excessive drinking habits. The violent confrontation took place at Wat Mai Phatthana in the Nong Song Hong district, Khon Kaen.

Police received reports of the attack at around 1:00 PM on October 19, 2024. Upon arrival, they found a significant pool of blood near the monk's quarters, where the accused, 66-year-old Phra Ken, had allegedly struck 56-year-old village head Tawee Kiatnok multiple times. Eyewitnesses reported that Tawee sustained serious injuries from three axe wounds, one to the head, one to the nape of his neck, and another to the face. Despite being rushed to Nong Song Hong Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.

Following the incident, Phra Ken remained at the scene, waiting for police to arrive so he could turn himself in. Upon questioning, he confessed to the murder, stating that he was enraged after being ordered to leave the temple by the village head, who had been alerted to the monk's drinking problems by local residents.

According to Phra Ken, a conversation about his expulsion had already occurred the previous day, during which he had begun packing his belongings. However, when the village head returned that day, accompanied by members of the village council, Phra Ken felt provoked when Tawee raised his voice and insisted he leave immediately.

In a fit of rage, Phra Ken retrieved an axe from a nearby woodpile and attacked Tawee from behind as he sat at a table. After striking him once, Tawee fell forward, prompting Phra Ken to strike again in the nape before delivering a final blow to his face. After the attack, Phra Ken placed the axe down, called a relative to inform them that he had killed someone, and awaited the police.

Police Chief Pol. Col. Theerthatch Pongsuvarn confirmed that witnesses corroborated Phra Ken's confession. He explained that Tawee had been informed of complaints regarding Phra Ken's drinking and had come to confront him about it, leading to the fatal altercation.

Phra Ken has been charged with premeditated murder and is currently in custody, awaiting legal proceedings.

oh dear Georgealbert,  this is horrible news for a Sunday morning ....

They just can't keep their dirty stinking nose out of other folks business.

Not saying the crazy axeman was right, but the village head could have handled the situation a lot better,  he should have just sat down with the axeman and just quietly explain the problems and how to resolve.

Well,  he won't be kicking anyone out anymore ....

I am a very good man, and I am a very good monk, and I am a great example to the entire community. Okay, maybe I drink a little bit sometimes, but that does not mean that I should be excommunicated, and kicked out of the temple.

Don't you understand how great I am, don't you understand how wonderful I am, don't any of you people get it? I had a murder this guy because he did not acknowledge my greatness, and he did not acknowledge my perfection, and I didn't know what else to do.

That was a refreshing Sunday morning coffee read. Axe is fairly rarely mentioned in these killing stories here especially in temples

yes,   their usual choice of tool is either machete or gun,  we haven't had an axe for a while.

and the local residents don't drink ?

The Village head should have told them to mind their own business.

Then he should have discussed the problem and resolution with the axeman himself.

that was his mistake ....    he wasn't a very wise headman now was he   !!  :vampire:

Hindsight is such a wonderful thing.

There are far too many people based in temples who should never have been allowed to join the monkhood.

As long as it keeps them off the streets....I don't care for temples, so there's less chance of meeting them !

A reminder to those who think people with strong religious convictions are special, holy, role models etc are just not. Another demonstration that religions are man made.

Where better really for wolves in sheep's clothing to hide than behind a frock, pulpit, in the confessional, in the classroom, at the temple?  In plain sight.
