Anybody at any time should have the right to ask somebody to not smoke near them, especially if it's a cafe or a restaurant where people are ingesting food. For some of us second hand tobacco smoke is one of the most obnoxious smells in the universe, it's right up there with the chemicals that come out of a chemical plant. So kudos to the stall owner for standing up to this filthy creep, and hopefully the police will have the vision and will to lock this guy up.

 

I suggest at least 6 months in the can and a 200,000 baht fine to the owner of the stall.

   There isn't a footpath , the food stalls are set back a bit from the road and the market extends all the way to the road , the kerb is part of the market as well

I think a lot of smokers just don't realize how obnoxious secondhand smoke is, and they seem to feel somewhat entitled to smoke wherever they want. If I walk into a restaurant and people are smoking, I turn around and just walk right back out. I just don't want to deal with it. I feel the same way about bars, if too many people are smoking it's just not worth it..

 

It is always fascinating when I watch European movies how high a percentage of people are smokers, it's as if they think smoking is still somehow hip or cool, little do they know how lame a habit it is, how filthy a habit it is, and how obnoxious and destructive a habit it is. Not to mention an expensive habit in many countries.

I, for one, care. If I want to state facts (e.g. laundered foreign money had / has a detrimental effect on real estate prices in Vancouver) I should be permitted to say so without being crucified and slandered as a "bigot" by the woke, uber PC brigade. I don't care if the laundered money came from Mars.

Actually been here for about 25 years now. Although I am only in my middle 50s, so if you see that as old timer, sure then it is like that. I settled in Thailand when I was 30, and lived here since then. How about you?

Just came over this year. Same age as you, but I am retired.

Looking at doing some investments here but I don’t want to work, more passive investing, there are a lot of opportunities here.

 

Had a couple of holidays here before that though.

I am not having that, that would mean pedestrians have no right of way to walk next to a road.

 

Markets don't own the kerbs, though they often encroach on them, hence various means and methods to get markets moved.

 

How often previously was it we have to move into the road to negotiate our way around food trolleys and carts occupying the pavements in Bangkok.

 

These are attempts to commandeer public spaces and rights of way by stallholders.

 

It is no better than those who place bollards and obstacles outside their shops so they can reserve parking for themselves in public streets and rights of way.

2) Yelling and swearing at her

3) wrecking the woman’s stall.

 

I remember reading that you have also had many confrontations and conflicts with Thais in Thailand, similar behavior, yelling and swearing, aggression.

An underlying, seething issue so you take these reports as an opportunity to vent your frustrations. 

 

All I am saying is I don’t think Thailand is for you, and you are not for Thailand. 
Do yourself a favor, and the Thais a favor and move along and find happiness.
