A landlord in Pattaya was shocked early morning on October 27, when he discovered what appeared to be an explosive device marked with mystical symbols hidden in a wardrobe in his rental property. The incident, which took place at a two-story rental room in Soi Naklua 27, was reported at 02:35 to Pol. Col. Navin Teerawit, Chief of Pattaya City Police Station.

Upon receiving the report, a team of officers from Pattaya City Police Station, community police volunteers, and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit from Chonburi rushed to the scene. The suspected explosive device, resembling an M67 grenade painted in gold with mystical inscriptions, was carefully moved outside and placed under a tyre with police barriers set up to prevent public access. Local residents, visibly alarmed, watched anxiously as authorities assessed the situation.

According to Mr. Yossiri Thirapong, the 50-year-old landlord, he had recently evicted his tenant, a migrant from the Tai Yai community, due to disturbances involving loud and noisy gatherings. After the tenant vacated, Mr. Yossiri entered the room to clean and repair it for the next occupant, only to find the suspicious device tucked away in a wardrobe. He immediately contacted authorities.

Pol. Sub. Lt. Pongphuchis Supharatchatapong, Deputy Inspector of Chonburi Police Investigation, examined the object and confirmed it was a fake device filled with gunpowder from small bullets. Although the device could ignite when lit, it lacked the ability to explode. Authorities noted the design appeared to mimic a real explosive, cautioning youth and individuals against attempting to create imitation bombs, as mistakes could lead to severe injuries.

The device has been logged as evidence and will be safely disposed of by the EOD team.
