Being drunk and stupid isn't a reason to be accosted, and it happens a lot here daily.

I've been drunk and temporarily stupid in Thailand more times than I can remember. Never in Pattaya though.

I've also never had a problem. I don't hang out where I used to these days, so I don't know if the vibe has changed in the last 10 years since I pulled out of that nosedive. However, I think that Pattaya has always had a different vibe to Bkk. And I think the vast numbers of tourists who have less time and scant understanding of how things work here, is a contributory factor.

I didn't say only hunters had guns, but hunters aren't the ones committing the crimes. There are also target shooters, and those also aren't. It's mostly gang warfare and suicides that encompasses most gun crimes there. Peace loving citizens are also not the ones committing crimes, unless it's to keep them or their families safe, in self defense.

The world is getting crazier each day, a lot because we let crazy leaders ply their trade, and corruption is rampant. Crimes aren't enforced harshly enough, especially here, where a fake wai and sorry gets many off harsh sentences. This shows others they can do the same things, knowing their punishment won't be so severe. You can kill, then leave the country and come back later, and all is well. That doesn't happen in western countries. You commit murder, you're a fugitive waiting to be punished, no matter when you're caught.

Riots and protests happen everywhere but here you're silenced for speaking your mind. What many aren't seeing is that crime is increasing everywhere, especially in countries where the officials are involved in human trafficking, where cash can get many off, because getting paid or giving cash compensation closes many cases. More road rage in the west maybe yes, but traffic deaths here are higher than most anywhere, and it's rage plus incompetency and ignorance that has the rate so high, and this will not change for a very long time to come, if ever.

Directly across the soi from the Hollywood nightclub at the Bae Ka Din restaurant on Chalermphrakiat Soi 3, NOT Phettrakul Road (or"Petchtrakul" as it's called in the Pattaya Mail article). :glare:
(Phettrakul Road is on the other side of the Hollywood and runs from the Hollywood Disco to the back side of Central Marina and then to the "rear" of Terminal 21.
Chalermphrakiat Soi 3 is the "short-cut" route to  get from the back side of Central Marina to #3 road by driving south for a bit on Phettrakul and then turning onto Chalermphrakiat Soi 3.)

And in the Pattaya Mail article it says the gunman was a part of the group that left "an entertainment venue" (Hollywood Disco most likely as it's like 40 meters away) and that they had engaged in a fist fight prior to the shooting.

It's a little confusing as at first the article says:

And then in the very next paragraph it says:

So, "Thai foreigners" ? :omfg:

Oh and - "at 4:06 am".

Ah "closing time". "Back in the day" closing time at the bars was quite often "fight time" as certain people would decide if they weren't going to get laid that night, then they may as well try to pick a fight with someone. Preferably someone that was going to get lucky.

It was a lol to be walking back to the base after the bars closed, especially on Fridays/Saturdays, and see strings of cop cars parked on the street just waiting for "something" to happen.
You learned that it was a good idea to finish your drinks and be out the door at least 15 minutes before closing - unless you were one of those types that sticks around to the very end hoping "something" would happen.

It seems like this all happened very quickly and with the gunfire, chaos ensued.

There was some type of commotion at a different venue, which some onlookers may have had reason to think there was a connection and possibly had seen or heard the argument between Thais and then assumed it carried over to the location of the shooting.

One particular witness, Mr. Amnuay mentioned the victims looked like foreign tourists.  And, they were rushed off in a black Toyota Alphard van, which does not seem like a common vehicle for tourists, but possible.  Perhaps Amnuay had recognized the people in the altercation and was protecting them by attempting to mislead the police.

It's highly likely that the black van drove to an emergency hospital and will be detected and a plate will be run.

Gun violence in America is a phenomenon of the minority communities who have been exploited by Democrats  and victimized by their policies since the Great Society

Nothing to do with politics. mental illness fuels gun violence no matter where it happens. No Democrats here but gun violence, including mass shootings, happen daily. Media has everyone thinking about gun violence in the US. Here it suppresses a lot, although the stats do get out.

...only hunters... shooting / killing animals for the thrill and then walking away is also hideous.  I'm happy I come from a county where 'shooting / killing animals for the thrill and then walking away' was common 50 years ago but now not seen.

Plus we had several highly successful gun 'hand in' drives, also successful.

All tourist areas have criminals waiting to exploit their trades. Happens worldwide so you have to not let yourself look like an easy target. They know tourists are there with cash, and they look for them to get drunk so they are easier targets, as was mentioned in other's posts. I wouldn't go there for any reason, as it's not my type of entertainment, but I see why others do. I lived near, and worked in NYC, for 30 years, and was there many nights, and never encountered any trouble because I never traveled alone and tried to fit in as much as possible.

Americans don't kill for thrills and walk away. We use the meat, and much is donated to homeless shelters. There are those that do this in every country. Hunters pay to protect game animals and usually aren't hunting to waste. Wasting game animals is definitely hideous,as there are those in the world who would do anything for that meat.

Thankfully this kind of nonsense is relatively rare in Thailand, I am from the US and we have a mass shooting there nearly every day. Americans absolutely adore their guns and their violence.

You are right.. and they will never abolish that law that everybody has the right to carry a gun as the weapon industry and Government is behind it.... Although many times is proven that that stupid law cost many unnecessary deaths every year because some lunatic is doing a mass execution

That law has also saved many lives, where a legitimate gun owner stopped one with  gun that either stole it or bought it illegally. Those doing the mass shootings are mentally ill people who got guns from others who had them legally, or who bought them themselves because they didn't have a record. One thing that must change, and I was a gun seller, is the legal age for acquisition, a more thorough background check, waiting period and mandatory safes in gun owners homes, along with metal detectors at all schools and public venues, and allowing armed guards there.

There are more guns than people in the U.S.  More Americans than ever are purchasing firearms for personal protection.  And it isn't only men buying these guns.  More states are passing laws allowing for concealed carry and some for open carry.

The police are overwhelmed and are having a difficult time responding to violent crimes.  As you say, these are crazy times.

Unlike you, I don't get misinformation hot from the inventors like MTG, Hannity, Meagan Kelly, Pirro, convicted felons and traitorous insurrectionists.

Oh please, the vast majority of serial killers and mass murderers are white men. So stop with the nonsense, your narrative is so skewed.

Appreciate your opinions gun violence in the USA, but this is Pattaya. Unless things have changed dramatically, that city is in Thailand. Still kudos for the first 'whataboutery' post on the OP.

That can and does happen anywhere and everywhere.  No need to beat your dead horse about Pattaya over it.

The only ones to go on about Pattaya are those who've never been here, but are mad jealous of us that chose to live in the area. They'd love to come here, even for a brief visit, but their wives won't let them leave the boring location that they chose to dwell. I wish some of them would manage a holiday here, then maybe they'd stop complaining of the things that happen here, which also occur anywhere in the country where there is alcohol and late opening. Give me my lovely quiet abode just outside of Pattaya over most of the boring places I've visited in this country.
