A Russian man, accused by his compatriots of acting with mafia-like intimidation, faces charges in Phuket after allegedly threatening several individuals, including former employees. Allegations against him include cutting the brake line of a motorcycle, an act that has led to charges of attempted murder, among others.

Cherng Talay Police Chief Weeraphong Rakkhito confirmed that the investigation had concluded and the case report had been submitted to the prosecutor. The charges, initiated after complaints were made in June, encompass verbal and physical threats, stalking, property damage, and attempted murder through a traffic accident. Evidence submitted included CCTV footage, supporting the claims from eight victims.

The accused, who runs a prominent swimming and language school in Cherng Talay, has been released on bail, as confirmed by the Phuket Public Prosecutor’s Office. The victims, comprising seven Russian nationals and one Uzbekistan citizen, reported a series of intimidating behaviours, such as physical threats, and revealed that tracking devices were placed on their vehicles, allowing the man to monitor their locations.

One victim captured footage of him cutting the brake line on a motorcycle parked at a residence in Mai Khao. Despite the initial complaint being lodged at Phuket City Police Station, the Cherng Talay Police were responsible for the investigation due to jurisdictional reasons.

The victims have voiced their fears of possible retaliation. In a joint statement to the Russian Embassy, they expressed their ongoing concern for their safety despite legal actions taken against the man.

“So far, action has been taken against [the Russian man], and he continues to commit illegal acts. We are truly afraid for our safety.”

Attempted murder

After leaving Thailand temporarily, the accused returned following the filing of the complaint, causing further distress among those involved. One victim commented on the situation, stating that since the complaint, they have feared retribution. The Russian Consulate General confirmed his return to Thailand, amplifying their concerns.

In their complaints, the victims detailed how the accused used his influence to eliminate competition within the swimming school business, which allegedly operated without legal permits and endangered children.

Earlier this month, frustrated by the lack of communication from police regarding the case’s progress, the victims considered escalating the matter to the Department of Special Investigation (DSI). Nonetheless, Police Chief Weeraphong assured them of the police’s commitment to their case, reported The Phuket News.

They are 8, so why be afraid. Just go together and show this little wimp what real mafia methods are. Like tied to a chair, nail pulling, feet in water and electric, fingers and knees in a vise and so on...... That will probably make him see reality. Can be done in a dark cellar. 😂

No, but really, eight people could confront the guy and actually make him understand to stop.

Here we go. The Russian mafia in Thailand? Russia, the belligerent country that Thailand seems to consider as a friend. A country infamous for a leader wanted for war crimes, threatening the world with nukes! Yeah, really a good friend?😫

By embracing an OL/OA (open legs, open arms) policy with immigration Thailand has essentially invited the Russian Bratva and the Chinese Triads to come and operate here. Of course there is much discontent over that because they're competing with the local mafias, but it's probably too late to reverse that trend. They are far more worthless and they are far more clever.

Oh, yes. I agree with you.

The Russian Mafia is respected in the USA, by the Italian mafia, they are feared by the Italians in certain circumstances.

In Australia the Lebanese Mafia control the drug trade and probably work with the Italian mafia which has been in Australia for years, Australia invited mass migration of Italians over the past 70 years or more.

NZ invited mass migration of chinese over 20 years ago , govt said Hong Kong police would screen out the Triads, never happened, the Chinese teamed up with local gangs and NZ has a massive P problem and other drugs.

There are shootings everyday  and a massive drug problem on such a large scale now it is affecting young people everywhere from all walks of life.

So what is happening in Thailand is because of government policy and corruption, just the same as in Britain ,NZ, and Australia, only NZ tries to convey a clean and green image , when it is totally corrupt but kept under wraps a little better than LOS.

"Respected" as to its danger to Americans, not in honor. US Treasury’s designation of the entire Russian mafia network as a “Transnational Criminal Organization” is the first measure that treats them as a single group. That triggers RICO criminal prosecution.

As a TCO Washington seems to be confirming that the threat posed by the fabled “Russian mafia” from the former Soviet republics is a more organized one than previously supposed.

Mafia? does she knows the meaning of such term?

bunch of low-lives tried to extort money from the owner of the school. Even Uzbeki

If he is so vicious why they still alive? To send mumbling farang to the the rainbow is less than 10K/pop [discounts apply]

Can even hire marksman of the same ethnicity - cute?

All that "Russian Mafia Hoopla" is being steered in media for last 30 years. Boys and girls - there is no such a thing in this country. Bulgarians who own skyscrapers on Sathorn are more powerful that a flock of rent-a-motocy and pirogy-pirogy shops.

Yes, and Albo thinks it's a good idea to invite the counts into the Country.

I leave my home country for a couple of years and this is what the clowns do to it.
