are goods from china taxed

Featured Replies

hope it's the correct forum, if not Mod to change please.

A couple days ago visited AliExpress trying to buy something with a purchased price of 4399 Baht, looking in detail at the sellers site and sales price details, there was a small print saying "" NO TAXES INCLUDED ON PRICE"" since this the first time I see something like that on a sales price I cancelled the purchase. Does anybody has purchased anything from China recently and was taxed on the goods at arrival, if there are taxes to be paid how much are they, if they charge taxes there is no advantage buying from "cheap" China

Did you click on 'check out' to see if total price included taxes and or shipping fee.  If not, then supposedly all overseas purchases are now taxable on arrival.

TH tax is 7%  ... unless added custom duty is applied.

CN tax is 13%

Just read 2 news blip, one stating all taxable, and one stating <1500 baht exempt.

Aliexpress seems to be taxing most everything now, including a recent item I bought for about B250.

i did click on check out but still shows the same message.... ""taxes not included"" thus assuming Thailand will tax and collect, AliExpress didn't answer my question, however a recent search about China goods being taxed, if says goods coming to Thailand valued at more then 1,000 baht will be taxable at a 7% rate... will not buy from China and risk the goods to be held at customs

Each ASEAN member may impose tariffs on goods entering from outside ASEAN based on its national schedules. However, for goods originating within ASEAN, ASEAN members are to apply a tariff rate of 0-5 %

I believe that VAT and excise duties are generally not covered by free trade agreements; can't find any mention of it in the FTA between China and ASEAN.

Like all the laws in Thailand, it ends up to get applied as per the mood of the officer in uniform who will decide and rule if he or she is in a bad mood wants to fully tax the falang or not. No rule or law is consistent in Thailand as it's all a mess and far to much power is left at the discretion of the chap in brown uniform and big golden wings to decide - should it be customs, immigration or a DLT office.

Up to B1500 value goods are exempt from import duty, all imported goods are subject to VAT now.

All imported goods are now subject to VAT, in theory.   None of my recent purchases have had VAT added, though.  Luck of the draw, I suppose.

FTAs do not mean that there is no import duty or VAT for personally bought/imported goods.

Thank you. That's good to remember.
