A Filipino Instagram user, under the account name *smartgirlphilippines*, has ignited controversy online after posting a video criticising Thai women in a sweeping comparison to Filipina women.

The video, posted on 5 November, includes remarks portraying Thai women as “easy” and “money-driven” and deems them unsuitable for marriage. The post quickly attracted widespread backlash from Thai netizens.

In her video, she speaks in English, contrasting Filipina women’s supposed virtues with perceived flaws in Thai women. She suggests that men prefer visiting Thailand for its “good food and fast women,” but argues that Filipinas make better life partners.

Her statement went as follows:

> “Thailand is your girlfriend, but the Philippines is your wife. Guys like to go to Thailand for the food and the fast women, but Thai girls don’t speak English.

They’re more transactional, whereas Filipinas speak English, love foreigners, and we’re more relational. Filipinas will treat you like a king and make you happy. You can date Thailand, but you’ll marry the Philippines.”

This video swiftly drew criticism, with many Thai users condemning the post as offensive and stereotypical. Comments poured in, expressing disappointment and anger over her portrayal of Thai women.

Many netizens pointed out the unfair generalisation and condemned the idea of using cultural stereotypes as a basis for relationships.

As the clip continues to spread online, it highlights the tensions that can arise from public generalisations and the cultural sensitivities involved in cross-national relationships. This incident is yet another reminder of the power social media has to both bridge and divide communities, reported Daily News.

I was with my wife and a friend of hers walking along not bothering to join their conversation.

But I heard the woman (American) ask my wife (Thai), what happens if your husband looks at other women?

My wife responded, I don't care if he looks at other women.  He is a man.  That's what men do!

I heard a similar comment from a Norwegian woman.

Her comment was men are hunters.

Please take note women of the world

White, Thai, Filipina, they are all cold and devious heartbreakers with an agenda, especially the pretty ones 🙂

I did chuckle a bit at the op though as Thai women across the board are typically very money-driven and money is a MAJOR reason in why they pick a man… Thai or foreign. The backlash is big because the truth hurts. Can’t two people just be into each other anymore despite the money thing?

You have to be both young and then your dream can happen

Been to the phils a few times way back on visa runs, And if you've never been their infrastructure is broken and <deleted>, The women are not the most attractive & mostly with moles of the noses, Then there's the culture which is Catholic so they Rob, Steal & murder 6 days a week apart from Sunday when their all in church! And the uneasiness when walking around manila on your own & you just don't get that in the LOS, Then the food is all fattening and greasy <deleted> ie jolibee, It's a no from me because Thailand is the only place I've felt settled apart from my own house back in London

The moles are a real thing. Another issue is that many Filipinas have giant teeth, usually crooked, and rather large heads. However, overall they can be very attractive, particularly as they tend to have more curves.

The lady is being silly. You can't generalise about (35) million Thai women.

Oh yes you can.We have it,they want it.That's just the way it is here.

You beat me to it.

That's exactly what it is.

Although there are many many exceptions in both countries.

Exactly what it is, is a generalization. Of course, every generalization has exceptions. That is the nature of such! That doesn't make it a poor generalization with a LOT of truth to it.

And yet. It's 100% accurate.

I've been happily marrired to a beautiful Thai lady for 15+ years (dated for three). We travel to the States 2-3 times a year and more often than not one the stewardesses (can we use that term anymore?) will try and ebgage her in Tagalog which makes her mad. Their is an Asian hierarchy apparently and I will say no more.

Not all of them marry for money.  Take my Thai wife for instance.   Her plan was, marry the American, wait 2 years to get a permanent green card, then skedaddle (depart quickly or hurriedly run away).

Now, 30 something years later, I am still waiting for her to ... skedaddle!!

As for money.   I am retired with enough income that I could get one of those elite visas and live in Thailand, if I were single.   Wife's income is 3 times mine!!!

Uhhhhhh, been married 30+ years to the same Thai woman, couldn't be happier, so maybe this Filipina shouldn't make generalizations. Has she ever been to Thailand or just spouting off "what she's heard?"

There is "marriage material" in all nationalities, and vice versa. It's like a minefield, better to tread carefully until you know where it's safe to walk.

On the other hand the Philippino women are far more faithful then the thai girls who often have more then one falang "sponsor" who is "servicing" them, when the other one is away back in the west saving to send her money.

For those of us who have thick skin and high self-esteem it is very hard to get offended, we get offended because we choose to get offended, we get offended because we choose to be victims. Who cares what this woman thinks? Who cares what she says? She is just another talking head with an opinion.

Many of us happen to prefer Thailand and Thai women, for a dozen good reasons. For me the Philippines reminds me of one enormous Tijuana, with really, really bad food.

Well said brother... Just another talking head... and I can speak from 5 years of living in the Philippines. If they didn't speak English, most foreigners would NOT be there.. lousy food, horrible infrastructure, and still brown outs and power failures.. Don't get me taking about medical..  I love Thailand and the people are just as peaceful as Filipinos.. maybe more so..

Stay blessed and ignore self-indulging people...

You obviously haven't been treated with respect and like a woman's king. It is a wonderful feeling experiencing your wife when in public treat you as the head of her family and her focus is making you happy. However, we all know that when alone the tables are turned and the wife becomes the queen or princess in your life. 18 years and we are still going strong. She spoils me and I spoil her.

Every woman I've been with, that's quite a few,  have treated me with respect, always, as I have done in return. No, I don't like the Master-Slave relationships that some people enjoy. To me, respect is not a thing that has to be shown off in public... it is just a way of life.

No, I get that, it was more flippant and generalising (horrible word). There are some amazing Thai ‘one-man’ women out there and I know some rather pleasant ones as friends/acquaintances. I just choose to keep the wall up nowadays.

If you go for a bargirl type in either country, maybe.

It's the 'normal' girls that are the ones to be careful of, in my experience.

I'm still on the fence with regards to which will hire someone to kill you faster if the relationship goes sideways.  Leaning towards Thai women/family being less likely to do it but it's close.

you are in far greater danger from the family with a philipina.

greater poverty, less to lose.
