Because 20th January is written in your constitution as inauguration day.  If you think Donald is so special he deserves different treatment than every single other elected president since 1933 then start a petition for a constitutional amendment. You can call it the Delusional Amendment.

I don't think that DT is That special  My opinion  is  I just think that it is a stupid Idea to wait that long for the new President to get in office, I belie that if one won the Votes  He/She should be in office within a week after the Final count of the Votes.

Not that simple in the US as you need to still go through the electoral college system. They have to appoint electors (by mid December), then they have to vote, then the votes need to be counted which goes to early Jan. Only then has he officially "won".

Inauguration Day used to be in March but the 1933 amendment moved it to 20th January.

I do agree though that it is a stupidly long time between public vote and office transfer. In the UK (if no hung parliament) it is usually done within 24 or 48 hours.

I think it's because so many officials need to be chosen and approved to be ready in time. A peculiar US custom. In more sensible countries, those people are permanent bureaucrats and just carry on regardless of which party won the vote.

Obviously they can't be selected before the election.

The lower limb weakness is already  established and no secret. The man has arthritis and chronic plantar fascitis. This impacts his  walking gait. It isn't a balance issue as much as it is an ability to take proper steps. The illness does not impact his cognitive ability.

It's a throwback to the days of olde when it took months to travel to DC from the West Coast.  After it took months to get news of who won...

 

I think it still serves a useful purpose to give the lefties time to recover from that syndrome that doesn't exist, before they take to their beds (and to the streets) again when The Donald does get sworn in.  Wouldn't want too many to shave their heads and buy their plane tickets to leave the country.  Possibly to a country with low balcony rails.

Do you mean the man that didn't take one day off in the election and that won the electoral college, the popular vote, the Senate and the House? Not bad for someone with "a screw loose." As for Biden it's the Democrats that has kept him there and not invoke the 25th Amendment. BTW saying someone is in cognitive decline is not pulling the piss. It's an observation. An observation known globally in this case.

You did see the debate didn't you. Fairly sure arthritis and plantar fasciitis wasn't playing much of a role then. By much of a role I mean NONE.

Have to agree. It's a ridiculous system. The Senate will now push through as much as they can. The people voted them out but have to wait two months for them to leave. Trump is pretty much ready go just a week after the election was called.

Yes, I saw the speeches. Biden has a speech impairment. As he  has aged, his ability to control the stutter has weakened. This results in pregnant pauses and what look like brain freezes.  Speech therapists have already explained that this is common in older people who had severe stutters. It does not mean they have cognitive decline.
