A relieved mother has been reunited with her 16 year old daughter, who had been missing for two months and was reportedly found working at a girlie bar in Pattaya. The shocking discovery came after the teenage girl’s 42 year old mother raised the alarm with local police, fearing her daughter had been misled about the nature of the job at a bar located on Soi Buakhao.

Pattaya City Police Chief Colonel Nawin Teerawit confirmed the case after officers responded to the mother’s concerns.

The mother had tracked down her daughter after spotting her in social media posts, where the teenager was seen selling drinks to customers at the bar. Desperate for answers, the mother contacted the police and rushed to the establishment, where she confronted the bar manager in a heated exchange.

When police arrived at the scene, the 30 year old male caretaker at the bar initially told officers the girl had asked to work there and had used a fake ID to gain entry. He later changed his story, claiming the teen hadn’t officially started working and was just “hanging around” the venue. However the discovery of an employee time card for the 16-year-old cast doubt on his version of events.

Pattaya News reported that the caretaker was promptly arrested and taken to Pattaya City Police Station. He now faces multiple charges, including employing a minor under the age of 18 at an entertainment venue, as well as accusations of coercion, threats, and inappropriate behaviour that may have led to misconduct. He is also facing charges for selling alcohol to a minor.

The bar manager is now under investigation, with a legal summons issued in their name. The police have not released any names in connection with the case, citing the involvement of a minor and the ongoing inquiry.

The case has raised serious questions about the exploitation of young people in Pattaya’s seedy entertainment industry, with police vowing to continue their investigation to ensure justice is served.

I think that many parents, especially in Thailand, don't do much parenting. They somehow "think" that their kids will grow up just fine without constant guidance and love from the parents.

Unfortunately, this goes wrong too often.

Or in other words: For normal girls, the idea to work in bars with lots of horny old men is scary. If teenage girls prefer that compared to being home with their parents, then something went very wrong.

Perhaps encouraged by others showing their mobile phones etc

Are you writing from experience? How about your girl? What pushed her to that work? Genuine question.

Her mother died when she was young.

When she was about 10, she went to work far away from her village with her father and his new wife.

Not long after that she run away, alone, to see some other relative about 1000km away from where she was. There she worked in a coffee shop until she was 16. And then her older stepsister decided it's time to bring her to Pattaya.

When I met her and asked her to live with me, she was happy to go with me to Bangkok far away from the family.

I promised her to take care of her and that is what I did and do.

And all that happened many years ago. We are still together and mostly happy.

Unfraternally, I saw too many daughters with too little care from the family. Sometimes the family has no money, which is obviously a problem. But there are also too many parents who think working all day and making lots of money will somehow make the kids happy. It doesn't.

I've met a few young people along the way. Some rebelling, others needing/wanting money. Everyone has their story. I too.

Would make sense to shut down Pattaya altogether..

No! Far too entertaining. I'm just glad I don't live there.

Many years ago I went to watch MotoGP in a sports bar in Pattaya, a young girl was there, who stood out like a sore thumb, obviously not wanting to be there. I talked to her a little, she could only speak Thai. On leaving I got in touch with the tourist police. Later they got back in touch to say that the parents left her there to pay off debts owed by the family.

"Missing!"..... for 2 months ?

I rather think that the mother knew she had gone to Pattaya, kidding herself that she would be working in a restaurant. not a bar .

That's quite a sick comment.

Not sick.  More realistic than many imagine.  I had a previous girlfriend’s mother offer me my girlfriend’s 14-year old sister, if I was willing to pay an extra 20,000 per month.  Sick lady with 3 daughters working and one in Issan pre-prep.

When i was a teenager, half of us had fake IDs. Not just to enter clubs/bars but some of us to work in Bars (in Ibiza back then) and enjoy the party (and multiple substances..).

The police are full aware of the activities in the bars in Thailand and in many cases who works in them.Well they do have shares and financial interest in many places so why wouldn't they know.

Mama sent 16yo daughter to work in Pattaya?

More likely than not mamas/aunties know exactly how things go - including the money coming home.

What happens when money stops coming, for whatever reason

In Australia teenagers can work part time or full time if not attend school.

AFAIK, Thailand does not allow young people to work legally.

Shame on Thailand, young people need money to, if they are unable to work legally, illegal work will be taken.

Not really.

Why?

Because then all those innocent "culture and temple lovers" would move to other places and ruin those places as well as they did it with Pattaya already.

Are you, or have you ever been, a parent?

I am inclined to not believe the 'bar caretaker'......!

A mother looking out for her wayward teenage kid!

Who? The 'bar caretaker' who changed his story?

But I suspect your just one more two faced poster on here.

Same method is tried a couple of times e.g. Sodoma and Gomorrah however method is proven non-functional

Phuket would be a better option, full of sex workers there, more than Pattaya in fact

Patong, where Soi Sixers beyond their sell-by date go to retire.
