A collision between a six-wheel truck and a school transport vehicle occurred on the morning of November 15, leaving two dead and several others injured in Pattani Province. The incident took place around 08:00 on Route 42 near Kota Bridge, Village 5, Laharn Subdistrict, Sai Buri District.

The school vehicle, which was transporting students from Maikhaen Kitwit School, was parked and struck by the truck. It is believed that the truck collided with the side of the school van, with two students standing at the rear. While the damage to both vehicles was not severe, the tragedy resulted in two fatalities.

The deceased were the two students stood at the back of the vehicle and were identified as Firhan Sani, a 14-year-old male student who died at the scene, and Sa-eenah Mukor, a 15-year-old female student who succumbed to her injuries shortly after arriving at Pattani Hospital.

In addition to the fatalities, a student who was sat on the first seat inside the vehicle on the side struck, remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit at Pattani Hospital. Six other students suffered minor injuries and were treated and discharged.

The crash site quickly became crowded with worried parents as the situation unfolded and authorities quickly used sand to cover the pool of blood on the road. Both drivers remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.

Pattani Governor, Pattimoh Sadeeyamu, has ordered an investigation into the cause of the accident. The Pattani Road Accident Investigation Committee is now collecting evidence and statements to determine the factors leading to the crash.

The truck driver, 25-year-old Jhatthanin, claimed he was driving normally when the incident occurred. Investigators are considering the possibility that the truck driver may have briefly fallen asleep at the wheel, as the school vehicle had been parked on the roadside waiting for more students to board.

Local authorities are continuing to investigate all details of the crash.

How is that a school transport vehicle?

Might as well give them bicycles or go carts.

It's obviously avoidable.  This clearly should not be school transport.  But it's all that's available in Thailand in 2024.  Fixes for this start at the top of Government.  Not at school level.

Where is the Minister of Education Pol Gen Permpoon Chidchob? He was appointed on November 13, 2023. I'd think he would lead concerns about safe busing of school children as well as for teachers riding with them. But I don't see his name in any of these accidents.

Truck driver probably boozing half the night celebrating Loy Kratong, tired, falls asleep.Thais could sleep on a washing line.

Don't assume everyone in Thailand is on the booze.

In Pattani, the overwhelming majority of people do not consume alcohol.  Nor do they celebrate Loy Krathong.

These two statements are not contradictory.

Utter rubbish truck driver!

How can you be driving normally to end up crashing into the school vehicle whilst it was picking up students going to school?
