A glass of prune juice and drink 2 or 3 teaspoons of cold pressed extra virgin olive oil in the morning on an empty tummy and that might get things going. 3 or 4 days waves a big red flag though. 3 days maybe max then you run the risk of fecal impaction and you don't want that (sht basically turns into cement). Are you drinking enough water? Constipation is one of the symptoms of dehydration. When was the last time you had a check up? I'm no fan of doctors anywhere and less so here but sometimes you just have to. All the best mate.

p.s. The olive oil is also rally good for your arteries.

I was told by an old timer here that this problem has a simple and inexpensive fix without playing around with your diet.

When you want a number two put the bum gun up where the sun dont shine.

It'll all come out of you like a waterfall.

Leaves your aristotle as clean as a whistle too.

And an excellent way to get an infection.

Figs and Prunes, Dragon Fruit and Pineapple

On pizza yeah! Add black Kalamata olives and anchovies and it's sounding pretty good to me. Drop the kiwi fruit though.

I eat plenty of fruit and vegetables but at 82 I'm finding my bowels just aren't regular any more. Sometimes it's 3 or 4 days between poops. If I take some of the powdered "Posh Medica" brand of high fibre for constipation it really cleans me out, but not sure if regular use of that kind of product is a good idea.

Appreciate any sensible suggestions to help with the problem.

One reason is, drink no enough water. The body retrive the necessary water from the poop, ín the last part of intestine.

A factoid which may surprise you as much as it surprised me when I first heard it... meat contains zero fiber.

@Luuk Chaai

100 % correct

human bodies do not need fiber to evacuate

Long term enemas may have unintended consequences, but the bum gun will only affect a very short part of the colon. The rest of the waste will still be there.

How so? If it's treated water it's not infectious. Perhaps you think it might cause trauma.

I don't drink tap water because although treated contamination might occur due to the pipes. If I don't drink it I'm not about to use it as an enema. As for water being infectious I don't think infectious is the word you're looking for.

Eat two whole unpeeled kiwi fruit every day.  Guaranteed to work.

Having suffered from constipation due to a "slow digestive system" according to the doctors at BUPA, I have tried just about everything to be regular and nothing has worked, not fibre, cereals, grains, fruit so I thought I would give the two unpeeled kiwifruit suggestion a go.

Last night I put two whole unpeeled kiwifruit into the blender and drank the result before bedtime, expecting there to be movement in the morning. This did not happen and I waited for about three hours before deciding upon my tried and trusted remedy which I have tried to give up; half a cup of "good" prune juice, Sunsweet (not the ones with added sugar) and two dessert spoons of liquid sorbitol (which I can buy from Lazada very cheaply), mixed and quickly consumed and about an hour later the "explosion" happened (which is why I have tried to steer away from this concoction) – – it works, but it works too well!!

The other remedies I have tried include; Sennakot tablets, Bisacodyl tablets, Resolor tablets (prescribed for me by the colorectal surgeon at Bangkok Phuket hospital), Miralax, Mucillin powder, and I thought I'd found a remedy with the "Posh Medica" powder which worked at least once, and then didn't, and also half a cup of olive oil which had no effect whatsoever and some licorice which although tasty, didn't have any of the desired effects.

So what to do? I can revert to my Sunsweet and Sorbitol remedy, but I would like my digestive system to be able to work naturally without "prompting", BUT perhaps it is the scourge of old age where the workings of the body are not as keen as they once were and have slowed down.

However I don't want to be like the aged gentleman who was next to me in hospital in Melbourne where I had my Turp performed, because according to one of the nurses he had been constipated for many weeks and they were pumping him full of something because every so often there would be a moaning and groaning coming from the bed and an awful smell filled the room. As far as I remember he was in his 80s, and I was out of there before I ever found out what happened to him, but whatever they were putting into him was certainly working, but geez, he was hardly conscious all the time.

I'm 77 in a few days, so perhaps that's what I have got to look forward to, even worse than it is now – groan!!!!

How do you take Sorbitol, as a liquid or powder?

Liquid, which I buy from Lazada (0.75 litre for less than 100 baht) but it is intensely sweet if you can bear it, so I swallow it quickly and I'm not even sure that the Prune Juice is really necessary!!

Tried a new natural remedy, almost every day of this week—pak liang (melinjo leaves)—and it’s the bomb!  Best so far. I find it beneficial to change from time to time.

It’s great with a morning omelette or scrambled eggs, added to soups, used in spicy curries, fried as tempura, eaten raw in salads, or as wraps for rice and fillings.

A Southern Thai Traditional culinary favorite, very versatile, unique flavor, and incredibly cheap!

Here's an overview of their dietary profile:

Nutritional Composition (per 100g)

  • Calories: ~70-100 kcal
  • Protein: ~5-6g
  • Carbohydrates: ~12-14g
  • Fiber: ~1-2g
  • Fat: Low (~1g)
  • Vitamins:
    • High in Vitamin C (boosts immunity and skin health)
    • Rich in Vitamin A (supports vision and skin health)
    • Contains Vitamin B complex (supports energy metabolism)
  • Minerals:
    • Calcium (for bone health)
    • Iron (supports red blood cell production)
    • Potassium (helps regulate blood pressure)

Health Benefits

  1. Antioxidant-Rich: Helps combat oxidative stress and inflammation.
  2. Anti-Diabetic Potential: Melinjo leaves may help regulate blood sugar levels.
  3. Heart Health: Their potassium content can help maintain healthy blood pressure.
  4. Digestive Health: The fiber supports digestion and gut health.
  5. Immune Boost: Vitamin C enhances immune response.
