A shocking incident at an apartment building on Sukha Prachasasan 2 Road, Pak Kret District, Nonthaburi, left the landlord, an elderly woman, devastated. A tenant, who had accumulated unpaid rent of 18,000 baht over nine months, fled the premises, leaving behind a mountain of trash and an unbearable stench.

The fourth-floor room in the four-story apartment building was found filled with garbage piled up to 1.5 metres high. The refuse included food containers, snack wrappers, soda cans, and liquor bottles stuffed into bags and scattered throughout the room, balcony, and bathroom. In a bizarre discovery, bottles filled with urine were found stacked and mixed in with the garbage. An old, filthy birdcage further contributed to the overwhelming odour.

The tenant, a man in his 30s, had been renting the room for about two years. Six months ago, a neighboring tenant complained of a foul smell emanating from the room. When the landlord initially inspected the room, she discovered piles of trash, as the door had been left unlocked. Confronted about the mess, the tenant claimed he was cleaning and would gradually dispose of the garbage.

Despite repeated assurances, the problem persisted, and the stench worsened. The tenant eventually disappeared just before the Loy Krathong festival, leaving the landlord with no choice but to unlock the room for inspection. What she found was even worse than before.

The landlord admitted the sight of the room nearly caused her to faint. In addition to the trash, the tenant’s unpaid rent left her in financial strain. Authorities have been informed of the incident, but the tenant remains uncontactable.

The landlord is now left to deal with the overwhelming cleanup and financial losses caused by the irresponsible tenant.

Before becoming a landlord, maybe there should be a licensing procedure and a training program so you know the basics of letting law, and how to read and write a tenancy agreement. Licence renewable every 3 years. This guy should have been thrown out after a month or so of non payment of rent. Surely she has a copy of his id card?

This is why you should always do monthly checks on property you rent out .

Who would want to rent from a Landlord like this. It may be your property but if someone is renting it is their HOME.
