Doxy PEP works well for me, about a year without catching anything. Azithromycin is mostly useless now, Ceftriaxone 500mg and Doxycycline 200mg for 7 days is much more effective

Wow

This just seems horribly irresponsible use of antibiotics. Good luck when you need them.

Like the doctors prescribing heavy antibiotics for a potential dental infection or post minor surgery.

So now you only have .01% chance. It's still Russian roulette.

Gotta be a dozen diseases avoidable by condom use.

Clueless

Yep, their studies didn't include that, but insertive vaginal sex has got to be lower risk than anal sex where blood is possible

I wonder why they don’t study that too. I guess it is considered much lower risk for transmission than anal sex as you said. So, assuming it fully protects against transmission from anal sex, then I guess the question of transmission from vaginal sex becomes moot. But blood can be present during vaginal sex too, either during or shortly after menstruation and sometimes you don’t see it until after the fact.

The notion of unprotected anal sex while using PrEP still concerns me, but I guess that’s what it is designed for.

Also, FWIW, only around 1% of the Thai population is even HIV positive. That’s quite low. It used to be a lot higher 20 years ago. Although, it can statistically be as high as 10% amongst Thai sex workers. Still a lot better than South Africa though where an average of 20% of the general population is HIV positive. And East Africa where it averages around 5%.

The women in the streets are there bc they've overcome their shyness enough pressed on by desperate need for money.

You think bars doing health or moral turpitude tests lol? All those...we test e ery 90 days 😂 errrr riiiiiight.

Working out of a bar is very much fading outside Pattaya.

Some just would rather not sit around in bars and become drunks and waste their money and time.

I'd never take a woman off Sukhumvit or Beach Rd , but doubt they are any more sketch than pub girls.

Chlamydia is/was so prevalent in Pattaya decades ago the girls don't even try to cure themselves. Itchy urethra? Yup. You too. Bbbj guaranteed week on antibiotics lol

Not useless at all. Fact. If you choose to ignore that information though because there is no statistical data on it then that to me seems like Darwinian behavior.

Although the risk of HIV transmission through oral sex is also known to be very low there is also very little actual statistical data about HIV transmission from oral sex because in most cases a sexual encounter also involves genital contact too. But just because the data isn’t there doesn’t mean the risk isn’t there.

Anecdotal BS. Want to avoid STIs? Avoid sex workers all together and get tested first before having sex with a non-sex worker. But then you still never fully know who else your partner might be sleeping with.

Girls get tested and word soon  spreads about their diseases and secrets cannot be kept , so the bars do not test them , they find out about their disease and soon everyone knows and bars refuse to employ them

Mixing with prostitutes and punters increases the likely hood of catching a disease .

Avoid prostitutes and people who use prostitutes and you should be quite safe .

Avoid the extreme promiscuous  people have bang like street dogs and have similar amount of diseases and you should be OK .

This is anecdotal, but I’ve heard stories over the years about girls working in bars and testing positive and still being allowed to work in the same bar, especially if they are a good seller. Basically, it’s an issue of user beware. The ability to hedge risk falls on the user and if you are smart then one shouldn’t rely on anything anyone tells you in a bar that sells sex.

What has surprised me is the amount of bargirls who don’t insist on condoms.

As a male the odds are in favor of us not getting HIV but there is a much higher chance of the ladies getting it from us if we are positive.

I was speaking to someone yesterday who claims he never uses condoms.
Personally I judge each situation on merit.

Malcom : If you wake up on a Sunday morning and those are the things that you think about , then you really should get yourself a life ,

A life where you think of other things on a Sunday morning .

Its not normal to wake up on a Sunday morning and think about whether other people use condoms or not .

You really need to find an interest in other things

I agree with you up until the point where you start distinguishing a difference in risk between street hookers and bar hookers. If you think one is less risky than the other than that’s a self fulfilling prophecy where you’re hanging from a goat rope. Best thing is you protect yourself and not rely on anecdotal statistics. You either abstain from sex altogether with sex workers or you wear condoms. Or you use PrEP. Or all of the above. And still, maybe you get lucky and maybe you don’t. It’s just life and it’s all a crapshoot.

Street girls like beach road girls can make far more than bar girls, anyway, you don't even like Sex Kenneth why are you always on the sexual threads?

If using condoms means the risk of contracting genital herpes is reduced by 95% , that is meaningful. A vague statement of risk reduction is not.

To me, Darwinian behavior is when people have unprotected sex with people of either sex they have only just met.

Studies didn't include heterosexual vaginal sex probably because it wasn't a problem, they didn't have Pattaya in mind.

Gay guys are doing condomless anal sex all the time, works for them

The sex worker HIV+ stats can't really be relied upon, most girls don't get tested

Red Cross have about 6% HIV test rate, these won't be PrEP people

Yes, a girl known to be working the street will be shunned as hitting bottom, prolly drugs. This is not at all necessarily true. Some just looking to make fast money.

Usually, it's that the street walker is thought of as a little crazy as well. Some honestly do lose it. The work and it's distractions drive them over. Really nasty home life, raw deal. Debt, family debt.

As for a true random freelancers not being hirable - Never heard of such a thing in 35 years. The notion that a Pattaya bargirl (especially an attractive one) would effectively be black listed from the gogo, bars, etc. This is tourist / hapless dreamer magical thinking. It's patently absurd. You pay your money and you take your chances.

Some girls will let you hit it sans condom. If she's hot she'll ask for more bc she can. If she's not you really shouldn't be risking unprotected sex with an unattractive person, but hey now. She's happy to oblige. Many have come to accept their transactional existences. Rather nonchalant about STDs. While it's pure panic for you it's part of the hazards of work.

Whatever. It’s a risk. Discount the risk to whatever degree you want to if it makes you feel better. Even a 5% risk is still a risk. But assuming that wearing a condom makes herpes transmission risk free is still Darwinism.

https://www.plannedparenthood.org/learn/stds-hiv-safer-sex/herpes

From the above link:

Herpes is easily spread from skin-to-skin contact with someone who has the virus. You can get it when your genitals and/or mouth touch their genitals and/or mouth — usually during oral, anal, and vaginal sex.

Herpes can be passed even if the penis or tongue doesn’t go all the way in the vagina, anus, or mouth. You don’t have to cum to spread herpes. All it takes is some quick skin-to-skin touching. You can also get herpes from kissing someone who has oral herpes.

The skin on your genitals, mouth, and eyes can be infected easily. Other areas of skin may get infected if there’s a way for the herpes virus to get in, like through a cut, burn, rash, or other sores. You don’t have to have sex to get herpes. Sometimes herpes can be passed in non-sexual ways, like if a parent with a cold sore gives you a peck on the lips. Most people with oral herpes got it when they were kids.  A mother can pass genital herpes to a baby during vaginal childbirth, but that’s pretty rare.

You can spread herpes to other parts of your body if you touch a herpes sore and then touch your mouth, genitals, or eyes without washing your hands first. You can also pass herpes to someone else this way.

Herpes is most contagious when sores are open and wet, because fluid from herpes blisters easily spreads the virus. But herpes can also “shed” and get passed to others when there are no sores and your skin looks totally normal.

Most people get herpes from someone who doesn’t have any sores. It may live in your body for years without causing any symptoms, so it’s really hard to know for sure when and how you got it. That’s why so many people have herpes — it’s a pretty sneaky infection.

Agreed. But protection can come in many forms. Not just condoms.

He asked me that question this morning and I replied to that question

Not another believer in the "regular testing" story told by bar owners, are you?

5 minutes ago, scubascuba3 said:

You mean around a 6% HIV positive rate from overall testing?

Right, PrEP people will all remain HIV negative, regardless of sexual behavior, as long as they maintain consistent use of the medication.
