Maybe because you did not tell the Taxman that you already had a Pink Card.

No. I presented my Pink ID card and YTB when I applied for the TIN.

I got my TIN millennia ago, followed by my Social Security number, then my pink ID.

All had different numbers of course, the systems just aren't fully integrated yet.

When I went to Social Security to set up my continuing to pay into the system when I stopped work, the nice ladies there adjusted my SS account to use my pink ID number.

The TIN can stay separate until someone asks me to change it.

Thanks Crossy. Good to know It's not just me!

I also went and got a TIN today and guess what? It's not the same number on my Pink ID card/YTB.

I will be obtaining my TIN to comply with the TRD's interpretation on the requirement to file, (which they have confirmed, in my district), and they have advised that my pink ID 13 digit number will NOT be my TIN. I have to apply for a TIN by completing a Lor.Por.10.1 Again, this is from my district tax office, so circumstances may, and obviously do vary.

My district tax office is Sathorn, in Bangkok. Based on others' experience in different offices, I thought my pink ID would be my TIN, but Sathorn RD say it will start with "1".

A tangled web being woven very quickly.

The numbers "should" all be the same, just like it is for Thais, but foreigner IDs are such a relatively new thing that mix-n-match is the rule of the day.

I believe the system at the Ministry of Interior changed quite a few years ago so that, at least in my case, after a long gap after I finished employment my current TIN was issued with the number the same as on my Pink ID. In short my old TIN was no longer operative.I would be interested to know when the Ministry of Interior rejigged the system.

I submitted the Lor.Por.10.1 when I applied today. My TIN begins with a 0 (zero) and my Pink ID begins with a 6.

Let me start this off with the usual caveat that situations and regions etc may vary as is the norm with Thailand. Rarely is there a "one size fit all"

So, sorting out Tax ID today for the upcoming probable tax implications and in direct response to the request from Kasikorn Bank to provide Tax ID. I visited a Thai accountant today, and within s very short space of time my official tax id was sorted. It is exact;ly the same number on my Pink ID card or in my Yellow tabien bahn.

Nice to know of yet another use for these often decried items.

I tried that number (my pink ID) as a tax number with BKB and not acceptable down in Trang... what area are you in

Maybe the first digit identifies the district tax office; I presume yours is not Sathorn district. My pink card begins with a 6, but I am informed the TIN will begin with a "1". I was also informed that a TIN is issued straight away, (by and at the office I am applying).

My TIN was issued straight away. Took about 20 minutes in all.

Good to hear. I'm getting a similar response through my inquiries at my RD.

Went to a Rayong tax office with my pink ID card and they filled out some paperwork for me that I had to sign and informed me that my pink card would be my tax number. I guess we will find out at tax time

Does anyone have a TIN that is a ten digit number starting with 1? Trying to confirm that mine is, thanks.

Mine is 13 digits in the same format as the Thai ID number, starts with a 0 (zero).
