I am with 3BB fiber and pay for V.I.P. guaranteed 200 Mbps .Bedroom TV with Ethernet often buffers using Wizz IPTV . Do a Speed Test , OOkla / Fast and they both show about 50 - 70 Mbps .No VPN is used . Daytime in my office , on my laptop using wifi , I get about 215 Mbps . Turn on my VPN ( Surf Shark ) and it drops to 20 Mbps . My phone that is using the house router , shows 200 Mbps not using a VPN .

Do you think that the 50 - 70 Mbps speed in my bedroom  is causing the tv buffering ? Strange thing is that when the TV programme comes back on , it picks up from where it left off , which suggests an IPTV blip ?

3BB techs said my devices were too old , Smart TV 5 years old and T95 Android box 1 year old . Techs connected their android box  and after 20 minutes of playing around achieved 1000 Mbps . Is this b/s ? BTW , the bedroom TV has sometimes hit 220 Mbps speed testing .

I have TMN fiber in my condo. I also use Nord VPN which I can turn on and off. There's also a 5gb router installed in the room, and that's how I access the internet.  I pay for 500 down and 200 up, and that's what I get if I connect without the VPN.  Even with the VPN I sometimes get that, but not always.

I just ran a Speed Test on my desktop with the VPN on 269 down, 69 up.  Usually, it's a lot faster.

Anyway, for reasons I won't go into here, the router in my condo also puts out a regular wi-fi signal, not 5g.  My Apple TV connects to that as it seems to be more reliable that way.  I have Norton on my Apple TV and my download speed without using the 6G are only in the 50 mbs range.  Still, that's usually enough for any streaming service without buffering.  So if your unit is buffering a lot and hanging up while it does, I'd probably blame your equipment. Something is not right.

People don't seem to realise that speed varies greatly depending on where you're connecting to. It helps if the base speed which is measured by these speed testing services is really high to begin with - but that's all.

If you have 1000 Mbps connections to Bangkok yet can only download that file from say Miami at 10 Mbps - it's almost certainly nothing to do with your ISP but the fact that you're connecting almost exactly half way around the world and it may not have an optimal route back to you.

The actual measured speed from your computer to some 3BB connected server in Bangkok is mostly irrelevant when you're connecting to third party services like foreign streaming services, especially if through a VPN - the VPN could help it to continue to be real fast or really slow it down depending on how it's routed, where it is and what type of connection / how many users they have on the node you're connecting to.

I guess you mean a router putting out a 5GHz WiFi signal, as well as 2.4GHz.

Yep.  It's not convenient to hot wire anything directly into the router, so I just use the wi-fi.
