Pattaya: Belgian Motorcyclist Dies in Crash into Village Entrance Gate

A 45 yer old Belgian  motorcyclist, lost his life in a crash early morning on November 29, after losing control of his bike and crashing into a village entrance gate in Soi Khao, A.D. House estate, Nongprue Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chon Buri.

 

The incident occurred at 05:35 and was reported to Pol. Lt. Supakit Kasudom, Deputy Inspector of Nongprue Police Station. Rescue volunteers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya Foundation were dispatched to the scene.

 

At the site of the crash, a yellow-and-black Yamaha Aerox motorcycle with license plate from Chon Buri was found severely damaged after veering off a curve and crashing into the base of a village entrance gate. Lying near the base of the gate was the lifeless body of a foreign man, who was name as Mr David from Belguim. Rescue workers covered the body with a white cloth and cordoned off the area to prevent public interference.

 

Mr. Teerakhan Thongkham, 33, a security guard at the village, stated that while he did not witness the crash, he heard the sound of the motorcycle losing control and crashing. The rider was thrown from the vehicle, striking the gate structure. He immediately contacted authorities for assistance.

 

Pol. Lt. Supakit recorded evidence at the scene and announced plans to review CCTV footage to determine the cause of the crash.

 

The body has been transported to Bang Lamung Hospital, where it will be held pending confirmation of identification and collection by relatives.

We all know the Farangs here, some of them, just do not understand how to ride these bikes and tend to speed quite often.  I see it everyday.

That is funny, but true, those poor guys get less than 600 THB a day...and God bless them, I hope they sleep good.  I use to work Grave Yard and it is a tough job, especially if you have nothing to do but sit.

No powerful needed.

My Honda Wave 110 ccm ("student bike" legally from 15 yr) comes close to 100 km/h. That's about the smallest you can get with combustion engine.

Majority of rent scooters in Pattaya is 125 cc.

 

Don't drink or drug and drive.

Don't drive when tired.

In the night take extra care. A pothole can cost your life.

Seriously? You wish to compare the death of a middle aged man with a geriatric palliative care patient?

The deceased had decades left to live. That's one of the parts of the tragedy. Vehicle crashes are horrible events and  sloughing it off speaks to a lack of empathy.

I  think the word "tragic" is really wrongly overused a lot here in the English language media and people online when referring to a death like this.

 

There is nothing tragic about it. Just a fool taking himself out of the genepool himself in the most Darwinian and common way possible in Thailand.

 

Had the guard been killed by the bike slamming into his guard shack, that would have been tragic.

 

I reserve empathy for accidents/deaths that are truly just bad luck accident deaths or disease.

You have made a lot of assumptions. You don't know if the driver is impaired. You assumed he was. For all you know the driver could have had a seizure. What if he was coming home from work?  There is no  information on what the man did or what his BAC level was.
