Authorities are pursuing legal action against unidentified individuals in a black car who fired four gunshots at wild elephants in Kaeng Krachan National Park, Prachuap Khiri Khan. The perpetrators face six serious charges under wildlife, firearm, and national park laws.

Mr. Mongkol Chaiphakdee, Chief of Kaeng Krachan National Park, revealed that on November 29, at around 19.00, a concerned citizen reported the incident, seen via a TikTok video. The footage captured individuals in the car firing shots on Nong Phlap–Huai Sat Yai Road at Kilometre 13 in Moo 1, Huai Sat Yai Subdistrict, Hua Hin District. Wild elephants were present on the road during the shooting.

On November 30, from 10:30 to 11:30, a team led by forestry officer Ms. Jiranan Jaraskul and ranger Mr. Athit Akkabut conducted an investigation at the scene. The team discovered four 9mm bullet casings: two marked “THAIARMS,” one marked “LUGER,” and one unidentified. No suspects or other individuals were found in the area during the inspection.

The incident violates multiple laws, including:

1. National Park Act, B.E. 2562 (2019):

• Section 19(2): Prohibits shooting firearms that harm or disturb animals.

• Section 41(4): Prohibits actions that harass or harm wildlife.

2. Wildlife Preservation and Protection Act, B.E. 2562 (2019):

• Section 12(1): Prohibits hunting of protected wildlife.

• Section 83: Prohibits firearm use in wildlife sanctuaries.

3. Firearms Act, B.E. 2490 (1947):

• Section 8 : Prohibits carrying firearms in public areas.

• Section 72 : Prohibits discharging firearms without justifiable cause in public areas.

All evidence has been submitted to Nong Phlap Police Station for further investigation and prosecution. Authorities are working to identify and apprehend the culprits.

Does bear spray work on elephants?

Whether it does or not, presumably it is illegal to use it here in the same way that the use of pepper spray is, so trying it out is not a good idea, either way.

Section 41(4): Prohibits actions that harass or harm wildlife.

Glad to see that the elephant gave zero ducks about the firing. In my mind, this guy is a danger to society being so trigger happy. He faced zero threat from the elephant and he pulls a gun out. Scary
