Be thankful the neighbour doesn't smoke cigars. :coffee1:

This issue comes up in my building every December when it's cool and people like to open their windows. There is not much you can do about neighbors acting within the law and rules of the condo. By mid-January everyone will have their windows and doors closed and the AC on. Problem solved 🙄

You are lucky!

I gave up around 16 years ago, but hate the smell of tobacco smoke now.

As an ex-smoker I'm not bothered by cigarette, cigar or pipe smoke. In your case, given your sensitivity, you should surely have checked the regulations before moving in to the condo. Now you either have to put up with the smell, or move

Yep,  I think this is the correct answer.

Hi folks, I’ve moved to this condo in and I’m a non smoker.

I’ve chosen this property due to the view of the beach and sea breeze.

I have this neighbour below me that frequently  smokes and i can’t keep my windows open . The smell of the cigarette is just too disgusting for me

There’s no regulation in this condo about being  smoke free but wouldn’t one be more considerate of their neighbors if they are living in a condo instead of a stand alone house?

Anyone experiencing this ?

Ask him politely to smoke a brand you like to smell or to reduce smoking on defined hours.

Or move out

Move out, or do you think, the smoker have to go? First serve, first get! I say as a non-smoker :coffee1:

Yes. First it was a chain smoking Iranian 3 floors down. It came up through the ventilation system. Then an Arab rented the unit next door. He was a heavy  water pipe and Marlboro smoker. Smoke came in through the dividing wall. Due to noise and heat I had to keep my windows mostly closed. I invested in  air filter machines. Little help.

Complained to building manager. Sorry, cannot help. European unit owners not interested in issue of their tenants. Eventually, Iranian left. He was a nasty who denied smoking. The Arab neighbour  left in August. I expect it must have been rushed due to a personal misfortune as his mother was the one overseeing the  move, He left a mess too. He wasn't a bad guy, but he liked to party and would have his arab pals over and they would all smoke. Had a pretty girlfriend with a fiery temper.

The  incredible aspect is that no cannabis smoking is allowed in the building and  it is enforced.

The smoke made me ill and it was unbearable. Due to  work and  other issues, I could not move. I despise smokers now with a real passion.

Smoke going through the walls and ventilation system.

Curious how the smoke goes through the separate ventilation system of another separate system 3 floors away.

Are the walls paper thin?

Iranian and Arab neighbors.

Have you considered an upgraded condo/apartment?  Better neighborhood?

The klitchens have a fan exhaust. Unfortunately, the ductwork is not balanced and although there  is a powerful exhaust fan, there are leaks . People can get cooking smells in their units.

The units also  have  a weird air pressure when the AC is working. It's a positive pressure that pushes air out of the unit, especially into the closed interior hallway.

Walls  looked like they were are ccncrete covered with plasterboard. There did not appear to have been insulation when the place was built. The building arabs (and Chinese) tend to be wealthy and while some are heavy smokers, most are non drinkers and do not bring riff raff home. They are decent tenants and keep to themselves. Very rarely do they cause noise or get into fights or jump off the balcony. The building had no crime and was perfectly situated and offered some options that were not available elsewhere for the price. Quite a contrast from the building in Patong. Nosy neighbors, a Norwegian who drank himself to death and was only discovered when  he started to decay and stunk up the premises. It was featured in the old Thai Visa news. Had a jumper, but that never made the news. Lots of  European owners who were in arrears on condo fees and far too many short term rentals. Sometimes I had to ride the elevator with various prostitutes, some of whom were  questionably legal.

Not really, I was a smoker a while back, but now, the spent smoke smell to me is not nice. So I can understand how any none smoker feels if they have to put up with it 24/7........🥴

Trans, me too mate, I'm getting on in years now, well into my 70,s, I smoked for well over 45 years, one day I decided enough was enough, and stopped just like that, I don't necessarily feel any better for stopping and sometimes think about going back to it but if I did I would get severe ear ache from the mrs, so I  don't bother. I just spend the extra money on more booze 5555

Just curious why do they smoke?

are they anxious or worried about something and need some kind of chemical hit to brain fog ?

I see office workers and young people having a cig break and they all have two things in common from my view

theyre glued to their cell phone screen as if they r anxiously in need of something to fiddle

their faces look like they r in short of air and look stressed or depressed
