People forget that you can try to throw your weight around with small Thai guys who learned kickboxing in high school.

Don't be too complacent though

I never forget the young Aussie stabbed to death in Isaan 10 or so years ago riding his motorcycle

Can you provide a link to that ?

I realise your elderly but Google has been around for the last 15 years ,if you can't do it ask your Carer !

I did do a Google search before I asked you , but the only result came up was a woman and you stated "he" and that is why I asked you for confirmation of which case you were referring to

Here's the Google search for "Aussie stabbed to death in Isaan"

No mention of what you spoke about .

https://www.google.com/search?q=Aussie+stabbed+to+death+in+Isaan&sca_esv=474c61ed372cb30b&sxsrf=ADLYWIIASrfNqnr5GU30CdJS3JFmmOsYeA:1734467814149&ei=5uBhZ87iCKSnseMPo4zuqQI&start=0&sa=N&sstk=ATObxK5eX1RxiEpUHXChwlXh9JeXVHBiqv3gO5qL8wA1BhlF6nbzpf1FSis0LIhxEAWreAj7k27H1THg4Abohx3gVKoLUIARAo2ZZsKEKsQjfniA7pjF_3faEOcW8dKT3ik2&ved=2ahUKEwjO7b6P1K-KAxWkU2wGHSOGOyU4ChDy0wN6BAgHEAQ&biw=1246&bih=534&dpr=1.53

So, as I previously asked, can you provide a link to the case that you were referring to ?

Never had a problem in Thailand at any time of day or night (other than a few soi dog encounters)

I think the Thais are indifferent to our presence even though they can overreact to certain situations or cultural faux pas.  It does seem to be that in all the articles of foreigners being “attacked”, just looking at the photos of the foreigners, they seem to give off a negative, aggressive vibe which can put the Thais on edge more so than someone just peacefully/lazily passing by.  Maybe it’s the look in the foreigners eyes, their body language or general demeanor but Thais, from what I have experienced are very good at reading people.

And who are you to receive a Wai?

Think your a VIP ?

Some Farang who thinks he's important?

YOU should be Waiing him !

And just like in Australia saying sorry to him for invading his land

You got to cut back on the toxic chemicals you use when mopping floors, it's affected your mind, possibly brain damage.

You've lost your marbles mate.

No. Thais do not attack foreigners for no reason. In my experience, Thais have been very kind to me, as a foreigner, for "no reason". They are very kind, respectful and generous.

That's my experience as well

I never had any problems like that in Thailand - or anywhere else in this world.

But I avoid trouble.

I remember once I was with the Thai family in a park on a lake. I think I was the only farang at there at that time. All was fine in daytime. People slashed in the water, had some food, fine.

But later in the day some guys in a group near us got more and more drunk. And that is unfortunately a situation which can possibly get difficult. We left (not in a hurry) to avoid any conflict.

Obviously, misunderstandings are a major problem. I heard more than once that a farang said: My Thai is good enough to get into trouble but not good enough to get out of trouble.

I think there is a lot of truth in that. We can joke, have some fun, all is fine. And then someone misunderstands a joke. And then? Are we able to explain to them that it was just a joke, relax?

And then there are of course those farangs with the big mouth fu@# this and fu@# that. Maybe they get away with that at home. But many Thais don't like that language.

Yep agree, I see these same guys commenting here regularly, attracting trouble.

I started this poll in response to one of these types.

Sounds like he has been lucky so far, but it will run out soon and we will probably be reading here about his gofundme.

And still blaming the Thais.

Some don’t get it and never will.

The other way round in London, it's the foreigners attacking the tourists and indigenous population there. No wonder why the Thais don't want aliens taking over their country

And in Melbourne Australia,2 Thai guys stab an Australian man to death for no reason

Luke Mitchell a good Samaritan
