Are we really better than the Russians, Indians, Arabs and Chinese in the eyes of Thais?

Thais in general (like most nationalities) view themselves as being in a higher social category than other nationalities, although even they see differences in social status due to skin color or location of the country. Im not referring to hi-so's in this statement as thats a separate issue.

While I agree with some things you say about some posters being racist toward some nationalities there is also some truth to the reasoning behind it. I think for me the tourist, regardless of nationality, that conducts themselves inappropriately is the main reason for dislike by Thais and others. The manner in which many tourist dress and act in public would be looked at the same in many countries. The foreigners that conduct themselves like they are entitled to act foolish and ignore any type of etiquette because they are on vacation are a large part of the problem.

There are certainly cultural differences that come into play as well. I have a Cafe so see people from everywhere and while most are fairly normal, there are absolutely some differences in culture that come thru without any ill intent and then there are those that it is understandable why people would view them in a very negative manner.

Myself, Im a racist on trump and other dictatorial leaders but dont really have issue with any specific nationalities. Just thought I would throw that out there to head off a couple of trolls and save them the time and effort to post.

If you want to be better-be better!

I am not a racist at all,i am more of a behaviouralist (knew that was not a real word)

People who act normal and treat me right will receive the same respect.

Behave like an axxhole and get what you deserve.

Nothing to do with race, all to do with culture.

No need to overthink this,

I do think i am better then people who drink and drive, all about behaviour.

British by birth, English by the grace of God. We are far superior, leaps ahead of the Aussies 🙂

Oh dear. I guess that's why we towel you up in quite a few sports.

Great Britain population - 68 million

Australia population - 27 million

Paris Olympics 2024 : Australia 18 gold medals. Great Britain 14 gold medals.

Would you like to quit while you are behind, or do you want to keep digging yourself deeper?

I don't know if I am better than any of the nationalities mentioned in the OP in Thai eyes, and don't know why I should care.

Drinking any Thai beer well lager is like drinking carbonated water, Chang before they regulated the ABV was not too bad but since they regulated it the as the rest.

i look forward to my trips to Vietnam for their great selection of Craft beers.

i was in the U.K. a few weeks ago and was drinking Forged Irish Stout, looks like Guinness but less harsh, unfortunately since Conor McGregor lost the private prosecution for rape and violence some bars in the UK have cancelled the sale of Forged Irish Stout.

Wrong thread perchance?

I've head first hand their distaste for Chinese and especially Indians (they do enjoy Chinese movies though so there's that). Whose counties do they migrate to themselves? White countries, by far. That should tell you all you need to know about who they prefer.  We don't even need to get into interracial dating/marriage stats which paint the same picture.

That's quite a skill set you have, to be able to determine gender, skin color and age on an English language forum where everyone uses a pseudonym?

Some Thais and some of us are smart enough to know that not all people from one country or race or religious group are the same.

Others want to blame those others, with other languages, religion, skin color, etc.

I think it's best to just ignore those ignorant idiots who need to blame others for their own misery.

The reality is that a small fraction of individuals within any group, whether they are foreigners or Thai locals, behave poorly and draw attention.

At the core, we are no different.

I don’t know about that. The Japanese don’t seem to be causing as much trouble as we do for example.
You don’t really see the Japanese walking around the tourist traps hand in hand with a little brown tattooed hooker as if it is true love dressed like a dirtbag starting fights with bouncers.

Or Russians, or Chinese for that matter.

There is cultural differences.

The question is do Thais see us as superior to the others the way we see ourselves.

Personally I can care less of where an individual or a group of people are from, though it doesn’t discount the fact some generally come off as very rude and are very different, though in their own national setting is acceptable. My wife is very bigoted, she is very outspoken about her dislike for Chinese, Hindi’s, Muslim of any nationality, Germans and Cambodians, a non human sub-species in her view. She doesn’t have any hatred toward Burmese, she views them as a lower level of human yet she’ll converse with them and smile. When I preach to her that all humans are equal and fallible, she looks at me like I’m from a different universe.

The majority of the farang thai marriages and dating are from the nightlife scene.

which in Russian, Indian, Arab and Chinese culture is unacceptable.

Often we will hear how the Thais shouldn’t be letting in other racial groups, should stop easy visas etc etc.

Bob/Colin/Barboy seems to have it in for the Russians in particular but also Thai males.

Others seem to have it in for especially for the one straw one coke Indians.

Some like Spidermike from the USA rant on about Chinese and Russians.

Arabs and Muslims are also targeted daily.

We even have Stephen100 who is endlessly putting the Thais down which is confusing.

Many seem to have it in for them all.

A common theme is that these groups should not be allowed in. It isn’t just the occasional comment. It is everyday.

Russians are big spending and usually in family groups, Chinese also big spending and more into the shopping, Indians and Arbs are a mixed bunch.

The older single western male is more into the bar scene and living and hanging out with the prostitutes in public. Thai kids going home from school share Pattaya songteows with drunken sex tourists taking hookers back to their hotels.

Younger Farang tourists are often over dosing on drugs at full moon type parties and stealing.

We can start a brawl in Soi 6 by underpaying prostitutes but the farangs apologists will be out blaming Thais.

And we look down on the other groups.

Should we be taking a good hard look at ourselves in the mirror?

Are we kidding ourselves that Thais (other than the prostitutes who directly benefit) really favor us and our “culture” over the other tourist groups?

Any group that becomes dominant where you staying will become a pain in the ass no matter where they are from.

Some western groups, do not even need to be a larger group becoming annoying, that's just how it is.

I like quiet and decent places, and those places you have to pay for. Put it another way, very seldom I experience annoyance at 5 star hotels, resorts or a my farm outback in Isaan.

You pay for quality and quiet as well hopefully a nice view

No, just amused by the assumption of superiority where there is no foundation of fact for it.

The British Empire died in the Ashes of WWII.

Many Brits seem to want to emigrate to Australia, although the days of the ten-pound Pom are long gone.

Those that go back to England after a bout o,f whinging, must miss their regular dose of rheumatism.

When you build a without infrastructure, it takes a bit more resources, but you experience less ignorant neighbours.

Still cheaper than buying an appartment or townhouse anywhere around the tourist destinations.
