Phuket International Airport is preparing for up to 60,000 passengers daily during the festive season. Officials are ensuring smooth services and heightened security to manage the crowd.

The Royal Thai Police’s Immigration Bureau, guided by acting commissioner Police Lieutenant General Panumas Bunyalak, is collaborating with airport director Monchai Tanode. They aim to accommodate the rising number of holiday visitors to the island, especially with Christmas and New Year approaching.

The Thai government has waived visa requirements for travelers from over 90 countries, streamlining entry procedures. To manage the holiday rush, document scanning steps have been reduced, more immigration officers are in place, and better queue management has been implemented at counters.

Safety is prioritized, with intelligence officers monitoring the airport for any suspicious activities. Monchai stated they are preparing for 354 flights daily, including 144 international and 210 domestic.

Estimated passenger numbers are expected to hit 110% of pre-pandemic levels, with 40,000 domestic and 20,000 international travelers each day.

Phuket's high season began in November, with an average of 23,000 passengers daily. Russian travelers lead international visitors, averaging 4,100 daily, followed by Chinese (1,800), Indians (1,790), Australians (780), and Britons (730).
