As the title says, I consider buying a second hand PCX - Nmax or something in the same class.

I don't use the bike much, maybe once every fortnight, since I live out of town and have a car, but it should be a comfortable ride for the occasional 20 - 30km trip and have some storage under the seat.

What should I look for, what age and what price? Are there any negatives on either of the models I mentioned which I should look out for?

Any suggestions where to get it at the best price, I'm east of Pattaya, are welcome.

Any of those are a good choice, can add ADV 160 or Aerox 155 to the list, but I would pick PCX or Nmax myself, best bang for buck, comfy and can handle any usage scenario - specially two up travel as well, more roomy than other two...

Find one no more than 2 years old and no more than 15000 km, still under warranty and can't go wrong. Also never buy a used bike without a comprehensive test ride first..., good luck.

Check Facebook markstplace, choose town/city near you, then go and see a few and test drive, a lot of fun...

After you have seen a few you know what is a well maintained good condition bike, and what is a overpriced ex-rental not worth half the price bike...! 🤗

A lot of dealers have too, but they usually buy cheap bikes and clean it up, even lower mileage and sell it expensive.., but occasionally find good ones that worth the extra, they also give their own warranty which is not bad..., but that's for older bikes, a 2 year old should have Honda/Yamaha warranty  - only if it has service book with stamps on it (this is also important) , Thais usually ignore this and don't have service book!!!

I started looking online, and most bikes are from 2 major second hand sellers. But prices drop like a rock.

2023 registered with ABS and only about 1500km for 60.000 baht. Advertised as first owner, and having full service history, and including 1-year warranty from seller.

I assume the 3 year Honda warranty is also still valid.

2024 registered with ABS and only 500km, for 70.000 baht. Again, first owner accident free and warranty from seller.

Are these prices realistic, or should I be very wary?

Yep, many scammers..., Of course if too good to be true, then it ain't right...

Never send money to anyone on FB, I've bought many things there, but first figured out if they are real, then went to their location, check the goods, even test, plug in power etc. , or test ride, check the paperwork, receipts etc., then pay cash...

Most scammers don't go this far, they also know who sounds like a victim and who not..., they pull out soon enough.

If in doubt with vehicles could ask them to go to a DLT office to transfer to your name, then you pay, the mention of this and scammers run a mile...! 😜

Thanks for the useful feedback, I learn from it. I only started looking for a bike when I started the topic, so I'm a complete noob.

I notice Nmax goes slightly cheaper than PCX, but don't know if this is related to popularity, new price or quality.

I currently have my eye on 2023 Nmax with 4500 km and complete service history, and it is cheaper than the listed 2023 PCX, which are mostly also from professional sellers and rarely have a service history.

If you had to choose between Nmax and PCX, which would be your choice, and why?

I always preferred Nmax because of dual ABS channel and revvy 155cc engine from Yamaha in the past...

But PCX is Honda so more popular with Thais and over the years they now also have ABS models and 160cc engines. Sells better in a few years too...

So now it's a matter of taste really, test ride a few of both ...

Thanks for the confirmation, my thoughts were also that it is because of less popular with Thai people.

All my bikes, big and small, for the past 40 years have been Yamaha, so I lean more that side.

That said, I have no intention to sell in a few years, since the bike is secondary transport for around the block for me.

The bike in question is actually end 2023, and goes for less than a PCX from 2022, and what is more important, it has a full service history with service book and Yamaha warranty card included, so it should still qualify for the 5 year Yamaha warranty.

@Agusts  I found that Nmax, model 2023, registered 2024, with 4000 kilometer on the clock.

Very clean bike, and rides good.

They ask 76k, maybe can get a few thousand off, but not sure. A new one currently can be had for 92K.

What you think, new or the second hand one?

I don't mind buying used bikes (or cars) , I test ride it, check it out, and see if the owner is reliable and someone who take care of his bike, then go for it....

But some people just like new bikes only, not sure I think they might be of the type who also liked their future wife to be a virgin...!? 😜 😅 Bad joke I know, but it's the first thing that always comes to my mind..., no but seriously, buying new bike also has its advantages, for me, I rather spend the saving on aftermarket extras or kit etc.

That Nmax you found IS basically a new bike...!

I rode the bike, and thought it to be fine, but what do I know as you're not allowed to test ride a new one from the shops.

All bikes you see online are from auctions, hard to find a very young bike directly from owner.

the current NMAX has a huge discount of 10k at the dealer as a new model is around the corner...so something like 85K now

the current PCX goes for about 95k these days

I had both (currently NMAX) , both are very good, the PCX little better in quality of the used materials and design...NMax more suitable for longer legs and 5 (Honda 3 ) years warranty

you cant go wrong...I would go for a brand new one...in 2021 during Covid I had to go for 2nd hand as no new ones available

I just called Mityon again, and asked why they advertise 10K discount, but offered me only 5K.

The answer was, 5K if you pay cash, 10K if you pay in installments (read pay 50% more for the same bike 😄).

Only in Thailand. Thanks anyway for the heads-up, I think 92.300 baht everything included is to be considered, over 74K + the extras for a +1 year old bike, even if it has only 5000 km on the clock

yes I would go for the new one.....just go in person to the Yamaha dealer (not on the corner and not sure if sure if they are Mityon as well) on 3rd between south road and fire brigade on left hand side, about 3 weeks ago the sales told me 10 k discount and havn't mentioned only for loan

Thanks I will be there today to check out.

To Mityon I previously went in person to 2 different branches, and both gave me same price. Only today I asked them over the phone.

If I can get an extra 5K at the branch you mention, then the difference with second hand is only 10K.

Got my bike.

Nmax purchased at Mityon October 2024, with 2600 km on the clock.

Came with all documents, including service book and original invoice. Dark green color, and looks as if it came out of the showroom yesterday.

Paid 75K including transfer.

Think I had a good deal.

I would say that's a steal, really good deal, and I think Mityon is a major shop that will service and honor all warranty and any issue you might have, 20k saving on a, in reality, new bike..., well done... 👍🏻

A Common problem with Nmaxis the ABS pump going wrong.A pricey item to buy.

When you look on facebook market place a lot of bikes i have seen have the ABS warning light on.

Also, you see a lot with the engine management light on and when on the centre stand the back wheel will spin very fast and the engine has a knocking noise.

Look at the photos of bikes for sale carefully ,also ask the seller if the ABS works.
