I have tried to use my Master Card on items abroad but the payment never goes through .

The cards used to have Visa on them but fior some reason they replaced it with MC and Union Pay.

I was going to visit SCB tomorrow to open an account , for the simple reason I can get a Visa Debit card.

I've had a Bangkok bank VISA debit card since Oct. of 2020.

Since I learned how to do cardless withdrawals, I don't carry around my Bangkok bank ATM card.

That's my excuse for thinking it was VISA when it is in fact MasterCard.

Sorry!

There was a topic on this from 2019 on here .

My Visa finished in 2022 and I was told no more Visa on Debit cards.

Will try tomorrow and see what happens.

My mistake.. I haven't looked at my ATM card for many months... it is indeed MasterCard... sorry for the error.

So your conclusion is that the global  mastercard network doesn’t work?

Maybe apply Occam’s Razor here and realize it’s probably a setting on your account. Further, realize that an account at SCB might have the same issue.

Firstly I had to look up " Occam's Razor " as I had never heard of it .

Secondly , what setting in my account could be wrong ? I have been to Bangkok bank and explained the situation and they said there was nothing wrong with my card , or it's ability to purchase anything .

So I am not saying the global Mastercard doesn't work , I am saying that it doesn't give me what I need like Visa does.

My experience used to be that all MC/VISA and electronic banking functions worked great internationally.

But it isn't always true.

This last year I had several weeks where I had to use bank transfers to pay online transactions because my card wasn't honored online.  Also, when I was supposed to be sent an OTP code I wouldn't receive a code so the transaction could not be completed.

For one bank, when logging on to the website OTP by SMS didn't work, OTP by voice call did.

These are accounts opened in the US and the phone is on a US phone provider network.

I called and SMSed the US phone from my Thai phone and it worked fine.

The last week everything seems to be working great again.

So my question is, which principle overrules the other?

Occam's razor or Murphy's Law?
